LSU
named Team of the Week
After posting a perfect 5-0 week, including an SEC sweep of No.
10 South Carolina, LSU has been named CollegeBaseballInsider.com Team of the
Week.
The Tigers started with an 8-4 victory at Tulane on Tuesday. LSU
blanked McNeese State 6-0 at home on Wednesday. Over the weekend, the Tigers
swept a three-game series from the Gamecocks in Baton Rouge, winning 11-3 on
Friday, 11-10 in 11 innings on Saturday and 6-3 on Sunday.
Honorable mention goes to San Diego, which defeated Long Beach
State and swept three Big West games from Loyola Marymount to extend its winning
streak to 16. North Carolina won at Charlotte, defeated High Point and took two
of three ACC contests from No. 2 Florida State. Arizona State split two games at
No. 18 Cal State Fullerton and swept a three-game Pac-10 set against No. 13
California. Texas A&M defeated Texas State and won three Big 12 games against
No. 6 Missouri. Oklahoma State went 5-0, with wins over Mid-America Christian
and No. 7 Wichita State and a three-game Big 12 sweep of Kansas. St. John’s got
a win over Princeton and took two of three Big East contests at first-place
Notre Dame. College of Charleston rebounded from a loss to No. 19 Coastal
Carolina to sweep a three-game Southern Conference set against The Citadel to
move into first in the conference standings. Purdue had a 5-0 week with a win
over Ball State and a four-game Big Ten sweep of Minnesota. Army had a four-game
sweep of Lafayette to clinch the regular-season title in the Patriot League and
the top seed in the conference tournament. Texas-San Antonio defeated Texas and
took a three-game Southland set from Sam Houston State. Fordham went 5-0 with
wins over Iona and New York Tech and a three-game Atlantic 10 sweep of
first-place Temple. Southern Miss took a pair from Mississippi State and swept a
three-game Conference USA series from Houston. Florida took two of three SEC
contests from No. 11 Georgia. Duquesne bounced back from a loss to West Virginia
to defeat Kent State and take two of three Atlantic 10 games at first-place
Charlotte. Clemson had a 5-0 week with a win at Western Carolina, a home victory
over Presbyterian and a three-game ACC sweep of Virginia Tech.
