Army
named Team of the Week
After posting a perfect 6-0 week, Army has been named
CollegeBaseballInsider.com Team of the Week.
The Black Knights defeated Iona and Manhattan, then swept a
four-game Patriot League series at Navy. The Midshipmen were in first place with
a 6-2 mark when the series began, but Army climbed over them into a first-place
tie with Bucknell and Holy Cross at 7-5. Senior Cole White (pictured right) went
the distance in the opener of Sunday's doubleheader, allowing one hit and one
run in eight innings with six strikeouts.
Honorable mention goes to USC, which defeated nationally-ranked
Cal State Fullerton and took two of three Pac-10 games from Top 10 California.
Oklahoma State defeated Western Illinois and won two of three Big 12 contests
against Top 10 Nebraska. North Carolina rebounded from a loss against Elon to
beat North Carolina A&T and sweep a three-game ACC sweep at Clemson. Missouri
topped Missouri State and won two of three Big 12 games against Texas. UC Irvine
defeated UCLA and took two of three Big West contests at Long Beach State.
Florida Atlantic won at top-ranked Miami and won two of three Sun Belt games
against Troy. Miami defeated Florida Gulf Coast and then lost to Florida
Atlantic before sweeping an ACC series at Georgia Tech. Notre Dame went 5-0 with
wins over Valparaiso and Manchester and a three-game Big East sweep at Villanova
to secure first place in the league. Michigan was 5-0, with a victory over
Toledo and a four-game Big Ten sweep at Illinois. Sam Houston State defeated
Houston Baptist and swept a three-game Southland set at Lamar. Pepperdine
bounced back from a loss to Cal Poly to sweep a three-game West Coast Conference
sweep against San Francisco. Texas-San Antonio swept a three-game Southland
series at Northwestern State. Furman defeated Gardner-Webb, lost to Charlotte
and swept a three-game Southern Conference series against College of Charleston.
Hartford bounced back from a loss to Holy Cross to take three of four America
East games at Stony Brook. Xavier defeated Ohio and lost to Bowling Green before
winning two of three Atlantic 10 contests at first-place Charlotte. Bowling
Green rebounded from a loss to Dayton to defeat Xavier and win two of three MAC
games at Ball State.
