No. 12 Mississippi State 4, No. 5 Texas Tech 2

In Frisco, Texas, JT Ginn allowed two earned runs and struck out eight, and Rowdey Jordan scored a pair of runs as Mississippi State won its second close game at the Frisco Classic at Dr. Pepper Ballpark. Colby White and Cole Gordon (third save) each worked a scoreless inning with two strikeouts to close out the Red Raiders, who got two hits and a run from Gabe Holt on a chilly day in Texas.      

Texas 8, No. 1 LSU 4

In Austin, Texas, Eric Kennedy drove in three runs, including a two-run single in a six-run second inning, as Texas beat LSU for the second straight day. Blair Henley (2-0) tossed six innings before turning it over to Cole Quintanilla, who struck out seven and allowed one hit in three dominant innings. Daniel Cabrera drove in a pair of runs for the Tigers.

No. 17 Clemson 11, South Carolina 5

In Greenville, S.C., Sam Hall (2 for 3, 3 R) homered and drove in two, and Logan Davidson (2 R) also homered and drove in two as Clemson evened its series with South Carolina. Holt Jones earned his first save with four scoreless innings of one-hit ball for the Tigers. TJ Hopkins homered and drove in two, and George Callil added a pair of RBI for the Gamecocks.

No. 2 Vanderbilt 2, Dayton 0

In Nashville, Harrison Ray drove in both runs, and three Vanderbilt pitchers combined on a four-hit shutout as the Commodores beat Dayton. Zach King (4.1 IP, 3 H, 7 K) and Ethan Smith (3.1 IP, 1 H, 5 K) kept the Flyers off the board before Jake Elder tossed the final inning for his second save. Tyler Henry was brilliant in relief for Dayton, working seven innings with five hits and one earned run.

No. 4 Oregon State 4, West Virginia 2

In Corvallis, Ore., Philip Beau homered twice and drove in three runs, and Adley Rutschmann hit a long homer and scored twice as Oregon State beat West Virginia to improve to 10-0. Bryce Fehmel worked six steady innings with four hits and two earned runs for the Beavers. TJ Lake had two RBI for the Mountaineers.

No. 9 Florida State 12, Mercer 1

In Tallahassee, Fla., Drew Mendoza went 2 for 4 with his third homer, two runs and four RBI, and Cooper Swanson homered and drove in three as Florida State beat Mercer.

Rice 6, No. 14 Baylor 3

In Houston, Evan Kravetz worked around a three-run fourth inning to strike out nine in 6.2 innings, and Kendal Jefferies worked the final 2.1 innings with three strikeouts as Rice beat Baylor in the Shriners Classic. Andrew Dunlap hit a two-run homer as the Owls took an early lead, and Rodrigo Duluc had a solo homer and scored twice. Ryan Bertelsman drove in two for the Bears.

No. 18 Coastal Carolina 10, Connecticut 7

In Conway, S.C., Kieton Rivers went 2 for 3 with three RBI, and Kyle Steels (2 for 5) and Jared Johnson each drove in two as Coastal Carolina scored in each of the first six innings to beat Connecticut at the Chants’ tourney. John Toppa went 3 for 5 with a homer, two runs and two RBI, and Thad Phillips homered and drove in three for the Huskies.
