In Lexington, Va., Anthony Meo (right) tossed a no-hitter as Coastal Carolina blanked Radford at Gray-Minor Stadium. It was the first no-hitter in the history of the Big South Tournament. Meo (9-3) walked one and struck out nine. He retired the first 16 before Blake Sipe reached on an error in the top of the sixth. Austin Taylor (left) had a pair of three-run homers as Liberty powered past Gardner-Webb. Tyler Bream had two hits and also went deep with four RBI for the Flames (34-22). Liberty put up crooked numbers in each of its first four at-bats to build a 10-1 advantage. Taylor’s blasts came in the third and eighth, while Bream’s three-run shot came in the fourth. Jaren Sustar (2 for 5) and Walt Quattlebaum (3 for 5, 2 R) both drove in two as Charleston Southern stopped Winthrop. Derek Smith doubled twice and knocked in one for the Buccaneers (29-28). Stew Brase (6-7, 9 IP, 8 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 3 K) pitched the complete game for CSU. Cam Walters had two hits and two RBI, while Patrick Gamblin homered for the Eagles (27-29).

Zack Leonard and Ben Magsig both had two hits and one RBI for the Eagles (35-20). EMU scored two in the third and single runs in the seventh and ninth. Mac Thoreson (6-3) allowed four hits and one run with six strikeouts in going the distance as Miami edged Toledo in a game that lasted 1:38. Lincoln Rassi (3-7, 3 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 1 BB) fanned seven in seven innings in absorbing the loss. Kevin Bower homered and scored twice for the Redhawks (33-24). Jim Vahalik went 2 for 2 with a double for the Rockets (26-28).

 

Ryan McMillin went 3 for 5 with a homer, three runs and two RBI as Western Michigan outscored Central Michigan. Jimmy Martinez went 3 for 4 with two runs and one RBI for the Broncos (26-29). Nate Theunissen homered twice and knocked in four for the Chippewas (29-26).

 

Ben Klafczynski went 3 for 5 with two doubles, two runs and three RBI as Kent State downed Bowling Green in the final game of the day. Evan Campbell (3 for 5) also doubled twice for the Golden Flashes (40-14). Matthew Pitzulo had two hits and knocked in a pair for the Falcons (20-30).

Saxon Butler and Phillip Ervin both drove in two as Samford downed Appalachian State. Daniel Kassouf (3 for 4) had a two-run double and scored in a three-run first for the Mountaineers (31-26). The Bulldogs (35-22) answered with one in the bottom of the first and took the lead with three in the fourth.

 

After both teams scored in the 14th and 19th, Western Carolina finally broke through as Ross Heffley (right) had a two-run homer in a three-run top of the 20th to beat Elon in a 6:33 marathon. Michael Burruss had a two-run triple in a three-run eighth as Georgia Southern rallied past College of Charleston in a game that started at 12:30 a.m. ET and ended at 3:01 a.m. ET. Chris Beck (8-4, 5 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 BB) fanned 13 in eight innings to earn the victory. Matt Murray struck out two in the ninth for his ninth save. Tom Richardson and Scooter Williams both had two hits for the Eagles (33-23). Marty Gantt went 3 for 4 with a double, one run and one RBI for the Cougars (36-21).

 

Atlantic Sun

In Nashville, Tenn., Derek Hamblen (1 for 4, 3 R, 2 RBI) and Nate Woods (1 for 5, 2 R, 2 RBI) both homered as Belmont battered Stetson at Marsh Stadium. Judah Akers had two hits and drove in three for the Bruins (33-24). Nick Rickles had two hits, including a homer, and two RBI for the Hatters (40-17).

 

Matthew Tomshaw (9-3) tossed a complete game, allowing one run on five hits with seven strikeouts as Jacksonville (35-20) edged ETSU (36-20) in a battle of NCAA bubble teams. Dan Gulbransen had a two-out, two-run double in the fifth inning off John Long (6-6) for the Dolphins.

 

Joe Winker went 2 for 5 with a homer and two RBI as Mercer knocked off Kennesaw State. Austin Barrett had three hits and two runs for the Bears (37-18). Ronnie Freeman (3 for 5, 2 RBI) went deep for Owls (32-24).

In Stony Brook, N.Y., Nick Tropeano struck out 12 in eight innings as Stony Brook thumped Albany at Joe Nathan Field. Tropeano (12-1) allowed six hits and one run with three walks. Travis Jankowski (4 for 5, 2 R) drove in three, while Tanner Nivins (2 for 4, 1 3B, 3 R) and Sal Intagliata (2 for 4, 1 R) both knocked in two for the Seawolves (42-10). Ralph Rizzo had three hits, and Kyle Crean went 2 for 3 with a run for the Great Danes (19-30).

In Durham, N.C., Dominic Leone and David Haselden combined on the shutout as Clemson thumped Georgia Tech at Durham Bulls Athletic Park. Leone (5-2, 4 H, 4 BB, 5 K) pitched the first five innings, Haselden (2 H, 2 K) worked the final four for his second save. Chris Epps had a three-run homer in the fourth for the Tigers (40-17) to snap a scoreless tie. Jake Davies went 2 for 2 with two walks for the Yellow Jackets (39-18).

 

Chris Taylor had three hits and three RBI, and John Barr added three RBI as Virginia scored early and often in routing Wake Forest in seven innings. Steven Proscia and Jared King each had three hits and three runs for the Cavaliers (46-9). Wake fell to 25-29 as Tyler Wilson allowed one run on two hits and struck out 12 in 6.1 innings.

 

Cory Mazzoni (5-6, 7 IP, 4 H, 1 BB, 9 K) and D.J. Thomas (2 IP, 1 BB, 2 K) combined on the shutout as NC State blanked Florida State. Matt Bergquist (2 for 5, 2 RBI) homered for the Wolfpack (34-23). Rafael Lopez and Jayce Boyd both doubled for the Seminoles (401-6).

La Salle scored the game-winning run on an error in the top of the 13th in an upset of Dayton. Kevin Christy and Pat Christensen combined to allow just one hit and one unearned run in the final 6.1 innings for the Explorers (28-24). In Clearwater, Fla., Kevan Smith homered twice and Matt Iannazzo went the distance as Pittsburgh topped Louisville at Bright House Field. Smith went deep in the first and third as the Panthers (33-21) built a 4-0 lead. Iannazzo (8-3) allowed eight hits and one earned run with no walks and four strikeouts. Ryan Wright had a pair of hits and knocked in one for the Cardinals (29-28).

 

Robert Case snapped a 3-3 tie with a run-scoring single in the eighth and Kevin Grove followed with a grand slam as St. John’s outlasted Cincinnati. Kyle Hansen (4-2, 5 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 1 BB) fanned eight in seven innings to get the win for the Red Storm (33-18). Sam Vandenheubel went 3 for 3 with one RBI for the Bearcats (30-26). St. John’s will face Pitt on Thursday, while UC meets Louisville in an elimination contest.

 

Seton Hall scored four in the first and third and rolled over West Virginia. Frank Esposito (3 for 5, 2 R, 2 RBI) was a homer short of the cycle for the Pirates (30-23). Sean Gusrang had two hits, including a triple, and two RBI for Seton Hall. Chris Rasky and Mark Dvoroznak both had two hits and a walk for the Mountaineers (28-26).

 

In the day’s finale, Ryan Fuller had a two-run homer to cap a three-run eighth as Connecticut edged Notre Dame. E Jagielo had a two-run homer in the top of the eighth to give the Fighting Irish (22-28-1) a 2-1 advantage. Nick Ahmed had two hits for the Huskies (40-15-1). Matt Barnes (4 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 BB) struck out eight in 7.1 innings for UConn. Dan Feehan (2-2, 0.2 IP, 1 H) got the win, while Kevin Vance pitched the ninth for his 13th save.

 

Big Ten

In Columbus, Ohio, Ohio State scored all five of its runs in the eighth inning to defeat Minnesota in the tourney opener. The Buckeyes (26-25) recorded five hits and capitalized on two Minnesota errors in the eighth. OSU’s David Crona (2 for 4) hit a double off the left field wall in that inning to cap the game and the Buckeyes wouldn’t relinquish their lead. Freshman closer Josh Dezse hit 97 mph on the radar gun as he retired the Golden Gophers (22-23) in order in the ninth for his sixth save. Nick O’Shea led the Minnesota offense going 2 for 4 with two RBI.

 

Purdue starting pitcher Matt Morgan went eight innings, scattering five hits and two runs while striking out eight in the Boilermakers victory over Penn State. The Nittany Lions (32-21) got on the scoreboard in the top of the first, but the Boilermakers (37-18) would score seven straight, highlighted by a three-run fifth. Stephen Talbott went 2 for 3 with three RBI for Purdue. Bobby Jacobs of PSU recorded two hits and two RBI.

 

Big 12

#4 Oklahoma State 6, #5 Baylor 2

In Oklahoma City, Mark Ginther had a two-run homer in the eighth as Oklahoma State topped Baylor at Bricktown Ballpark. Joey Hainsfurther went 2 for 4 and drove in one in a two-run third for the Bears (29-25). The Cowboys (35-21) put up four in the sixth before Ginther’s insurance shot in the eighth.

 

Jonah Schmidt had two hits, including a double, and four RBI as Missouri downed Texas. Schmidt’s three-run double in the top of the sixth snapped a 3-3 tie. Brannon Champagne (3 for 4) and Conner Mach (2 for 5) both scored twice for the Tigers (25-30). Erich Weiss (2 for 4, 2 R, 2 RBI) homered for the Longhorns. Eric Anderson (3-0, 7 IP, 8 H, 3 R, 2 BB, 4 K) got the win, while Phil McCormick (2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 3 K) picked up his seventh save.

 

Jacob House tied a Big 12 Championship record with five hits and Texas A&M scored the game’s final 10 runs in defeating Texas Tech. The Red Raiders (33-24) scored two in the third and three in the fifth for a 5-0 lead, before the Aggies (39-18) put up three in the fifth, six in the sixth and one in the seventh. House had two runs and drove in two. Matt Juengel went deep for A&M. Nick Popescu went 4 for 5 with one run and one RBI for Tech.

 

Ross Kivett (4 for 5, 2 RBI) had a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth to break a 4-4 deadlock as Kansas State edged Oklahoma. James Allen worked around two walks in the bottom of the ninth to earn his 16th save for the Wildcats (35-21). Tyler Ogle went 3 for 4 with two RBI for the Sooners (40-16).

 

Conference USA

In Pearl, Miss., Jonathan Griffin (3 for 4, 4 R) and Erik Hempe (2 for 3, 2 R) both homered and drove in three as UCF outscored Memphis at Ryan Breen also knocked in three for the Knights (37-20). UCF scored multiple runs in five of the first seven innings, including four in both the third and seventh. Philip Chapman went deep and drove in two for the Tigers (29-26).

 

Ryan Ussery homered and drove in four, and John Frost added three hits and three RBI as UAB built a 9-1 lead and held off Rice. Keith Depew went 4 for 5 with a run, and Jamal Austin contributed three hits and three runs for the Blazers (29-26). Six Owls (38-19) had two hits apiece as Rice rallied for five in the eighth.

 

Houston scored five in the top of the ninth to surprise East Carolina. Landon Appling went 2 for 4 with two RBI, while Chase Jensen went 3 for 5 with two runs and one RBI for the Cougars (26-30). Corey Thompson had a three-run homer in a five-run fifth for the Pirates (37-19).

 

Todd McInnis, the Pitcher of the Year in Conference USA, tossed a four-hitter as Southern Miss downed Tulane. McInnis (8-2) allowed one run and two walks in nine innings with eight strikeouts in recording his first complete game. Isaac Rodriguez (2 for 4, 2 R) had a two-run single to highlight a five-run first for the Golden Eagles (39-15). Nick Schneeberger had a double for the Green Wave (30-25).

 

Great West

In Grand Forks, N.D., Tripp Davis (6-6, 5 H, 2 R, 2 BB) went the distance with 10 strikeouts as NJIT eliminated Chicago State at Kraft Field. The Highlanders (20-34) scored three in the bottom of the first and never trailed. Matt Tomczyk went 3 for 4 with one RBI for NJIT. Michael Carpen had two hits, including a triple, and a run for the Cougars (9-41).

 

J Berggren went 3 for 5 with four RBI as Northern Colorado outscored UTPA in an elimination contest. B Packard had two hits and two RBI for the Bears (24-31). J Sawicki (8.1 IP, 10 H, 5 R, 1 BB, 4 K) picked up the win. Mike McCarthy had three hits and two runs, while Iradier Hernandez went 2 for 4 with two runs for the Broncs (21-31).

 

Utah Valley scored three in the bottom of the seventh to erase a 3-2 deficit against NYIT. Chris Benson had a two-run double in the seventh for the Wolverines (32-22). Kirk Doxey (2 for 3, 2 R) homered for UVU. George Carroll had two doubles and a run for the Bears (18-31).

 

In the final game of the day, Ryan Gerber went 4 for 5 with two runs and two RBI as North Dakota beat Houston Baptist to reach the finals of the winners’ bracket vs. UVU. Jake Magner (2 for 6) and Daniel Ross both drove in two for the Fighting Sioux (12-33). Robbie Buller homered for the Huskies (19-39).

 

Horizon League

In Dayton, Ohio, Damon McCormick threw a complete-game shutout as Valparaiso blanked Butler. McCormick struck out three for the Crusaders (23-30). The Valparaiso offense produced 19 hits compared to Butler’s seven. Steven Scoby highlighted the offensive outburst, going 2 for 4 with four RBI for the Crusaders. Chris Manning added a team-high four hits and Kyle Gaedale went 2 for 5 with one RBI and a stolen base. Corey Moylan went 2 for 3 for the Bulldogs (23-27-1).

 

Milwaukee, the defending Horizon League champion, was not able to complete its comeback attempt in the ninth in a loss to Youngstown State. The Panthers (27-27) faced a 4-0 deficit heading into the bottom of the eighth, but cut the lead in half before ultimately losing in the final frame. Milwaukee starting pitcher Chad Pierce went 7.1 innings and struck out seven in the losing effort. Dan Hurlimann went 2 for 4 with one RBI for the Penguins (13-39). Starter Phil Klein struck out 10 in eight innings for the Crusaders.

In Omaha, Neb., Creighton scored a pair of unearned runs in the first and never trailed in beating Bradley in front of 1,931 fans at TD Ameritrade Park. Michael Mutcheson (2 for 2, 3 R) homered and Trever Adams drove in two for the Bluejays (40-13). Jonas Dufek (10-1, 8 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 3 BB, 8 K) got the win, while Kurt Spomer worked the ninth for his 11th save. Mike Tauchman had a double for the Braves (22-31).

 

Kevin Tokarski's sacrifice fly plated Zach Amrein as Illinois State edged Evansville to set a school record for wins with 36 and eliminate Evansville. Kenny Long tossed 3.2 scoreless innings to post the win for the Redbirds (36-17), who are hoping to play their way into the NCAA field.

Nick Johnson had a three-run double, and Cameron Maldonado tossed a complete game with one run and five strikeouts to help Southern Illinois eliminate Bradley.

 

Chris O’Brien homered and drove in four as Wichita State stopped Indiana State. Brian Flynn (6-4, 5 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 4 BB, 4 K) got the win for the Shockers (38-24), while TJ McGreevy pitched four shutout innings with two hits, one walk and three strikeouts to earn his third save. Jon Hedges had two hits and two RBI for the Sycamores (27-27).

 

Missouri State scored five in the third and five in the seventh to upset host Creighton. Aaron Conway (2 for 3, 1 R), Kevin Medrano (1 for 4, 1 R) and Derek Mattea (1 for 4, 1 R) each drove in two for the Bears (33-21). Jimmy Swift and Anthony Bemboom both had two hits and one RBI for the Bluejays (40-14).

 

MWC

In San Diego, Taylor Cole allowed one run in 7.2 innings as BYU eliminated UNLV at Tony Gwynn Stadium. Cole (5-5) gave up eight hits with no walks and five strikeouts. Jared Miller worked the final 1.1 innings for his second save. Alex Wolfe and Wes Guenther both went 2 for 4 with one run and one RBI for the Cougars (30-26). Cash Thomas went 3 for 3 for the Rebels (33-25).

 

Trey Nielsen drove in all seven as Utah defeated San Diego State. Nielsen had a three-run double in the bottom of the first and a grand slam in the seventh for the Utes (29-19). Jomel Torres and Chris Wilson both drove in runs in the fourth, while Pat Colwell added a sacrifice fly in the ninth for the Aztecs (22-35). Rick Anton (9-1, 8 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 7 K) got the win for Utah. Tyler recorded the final out for his 12th save.

 

New Mexico scored the tying and winning runs on an error in a three-run eighth in upsetting TCU. Luke Campbell had two hits, one run and one RBI for the Lobos (18-39). Joe Weik had two hits and two RBI for the Horned Frogs (40-16). Matt Purke (4 H, 1 R, 2 BB) fanned four in four innings in the start for TCU.

In Jackson, Tenn., Frank Beech went 3 for 3 with one run and one RBI as Tennessee Tech edged Eastern Kentucky at Pringles Park. The Golden Eagles (25-27) scored four in the second to erase a 2-0 deficit and added two in the seventh. Ben Burgess knocked in two for TTU. Bryan Soloman went 3 for 4 with a run, while A.J. Jamison hammered a two-run homer in the second for the Colonels (21-35).

 

Kyle Bluestein had a two-run triple and scored on an error to cap a six-run eighth as Jacksonville State outscored UT Martin. Sam Eberle and Blake Seguin both had three hits and one RBI for the Gamecocks (34-20). Todd Hornsby (5-4, 2 IP, 4 H, 5 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 3 K) got the win in relief for JSU. In the first game of the day, Nathan Kilcrease (left) tied a career high with 10 strikeouts as Alabama downed Arkansas. Kilcrease (7-4, 7 H, 4 R, 1 ER) walked one in going eight innings. Michael Roth tossed his first complete game of the year, and Evan Marzilli went 2 for 2 with two runs and two RBI as South Carolina slipped past Auburn (29-28), desperate for wins in the SEC tourney. Roth (11-3) didn't allow an earned run, surrendering six hits and striking out two. Peter Mooney contributed two RBI for the Gamecocks (45-12).
 

Tony Kemp went 3 for 3 with three runs and three RBI as Vanderbilt run-ruled Georgia in seven innings. Jason Esposito (3 for 4, 2 R, 2 RBI) homered for the Commodores (45-9). Joey Delmonico had the lone hit for the Bulldogs (28-29).

Bryson Myles, the Southland Player of the Year, had a leadoff double in the sixth. He stole third to give him 51 swipes, the top mark in the nation. Myles scored on a sacrifice fly by Darren Crabtree to make it 2-1. Hunter Dozier added a RBI single later in the frame to knot the score at 2. In Monroe, La., Western Kentucky scored two in the bottom of the 11th and three in the 12th to rally past Florida Atlantic at Warhawk Field. Jared Andreoli (5 for 6, 2 R) had a two-run double to cap the three-run 12th for the Hilltoppers (33-22). Logan Robbins had a grand slam in the fifth for WKU to snap a 2-2 tie. The Owls (32-23) scored three in the eighth and one in the ninth to force extra frames. Raymond Church went 5 for 7 with a homer, four runs and two RBI, while Nick Delguidice went 3 for 5 with a dinger, two runs and five RBI for FAU.

 

Garrett Wittels had a three-run homer in the bottom of the 10th as FIU outlasted Arkansas State. The Red Wolves (25-31-1) scored six in the top of the ninth for force the extra frame. Rudy Flores (2 for 4, 2 R, 4 RBI) and Mike Martinez (2 for 4, 2 R, 2 RBI) also homered for the Panthers (38-17-1). Jordan Castaldo (2 for 5, 4 RBI) went deep for ASU.

 

Greg Garcia (2 for 4, 2 R, 2 RBI) and Myles Parma (2 for 5) had RBI singles in the top of the 10th as UALR upset Troy in a battle of Trojans in the finale of Day 1. Garcia and Jake Rowell both homered for UALR (21-32). Tyler Hannah went 3 for 5 with a home run for Troy (40-17). Garret Graziano (5-9, 2 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 1 K) earned the victory.
