South Carolina climbs to top spot in CBI Composite Poll

Vanderbilt rises to second, Texas up to third, Florida stays in fourth

 

After going 3-1 this week, including a series win at Alabama, South Carolina is No. 1 in the CollegeBaseballInsider.com Composite Poll.

 

The Gamecocks defeated UNC Asheville on Tuesday to start the week. South Carolina lost in Tuscaloosa on Thursday before winning on Friday and Saturday to claim a share of the SEC regular-season crown and earn the top seed in the SEC tournament. The Gamecocks are first in all four polls.

 

Vanderbilt won its series at Georgia to rise one place to second. The Commodores lost to the Bulldogs on Friday before rallying on Friday and Saturday to force a three-way tie at the top of the SEC standings. Vanderbilt is second in two polls, third in one and fourth in the other.

 

Texas was victorious in its series with Texas A&M to jumps two spots to No. 3. The Longhorns won in College Station on Thursday and won at home on Friday before falling to the Aggies on Saturday. Texas tied for the regular-season title in the Big 12 with Texas A&M and will be the top seed in the Big 12 tourney. The Longhorns are second in one poll, third in one and fourth in the other two.

 

Florida went 2-2 to remain at No. 4. The Gators lost at home to Jacksonville on Tuesday before taking two of three at home from Kentucky. Florida tied for the regular-season title in the SEC. The Gators are second in one poll, third in one and fifth in the other two.

 

Virginia was swept at North Carolina to fall from first to fifth. The Cavaliers tied for the best record in the ACC and will be the No. 1 seed in the ACC tourney. Virginnia is third in one poll, fourth in one and fifth in the other two.

 

Two teams return to this week's poll. Rice comes in at No. 16 and UCLA sneaks in at No. 20.

 

There are six ACC teams in this week's poll. There are three teams from the Big 12, Pac-10 and SEC, as well as two teams from the Big West. There are single entries from the Big East, Conference USA and Mountain West.
