Moore homers four times
in Army sweep of Lafayette
Dallas Baptist tops TCU, Kansas State wins
at CSUB, Stanford beats Cal
In
Easton, Pa., Clint Moore (left) had four home runs and 11 RBI as
Army swept Lafayette to move into a tie for first in the Patriot
League. After winning the completion of Sunday’s suspended
contest 8-6 in 12 innings, Moore went 2 for 4 with a grand slam
and a RBI double in the opener of the doubleheader, a 9-0
victory. He was 3 for 5 with three homers and six RBI in the
nightcap, a 12-2 outcome. Chris Rowley (3-3) tossed a
complete-game two-hitter in the opener, with two walk and three
strikeouts in seven scoreless innings. Gunnar Carroll (2-1)
earned the win in relief in the nightcap, allowing one hit and
one walk in 4.2 shutout innings with one strikeout for the Black
Knights (10-6, 18-20). Davila had hits in both contests and
drove in one in the nightcap for the Leopards (9-9, 14-23).
Dallas Baptist 9, No. 9 TCU 7
In Dallas, Jason Krizan launched a game-winning
two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth as Dallas Baptist
outscored TCU at Patriot Field. The Horned Frogs (29-12) had
scored two in the eighth to knot the score at 7. Chris Haney
(2-2, 1.1 IP, 1 H, 1 K) picked up the win for the Patriots
(26-13). Krizan went 3 for 5 with two runs and three RBI, while
Landon Anderson drove in two and Joel Hutter had two hits,
including a dinger, and two RBI for DBU. Josh Elander (2 RBI)
and Joe Weik (1 for 2, 2 BB, 3 R) both went deep for TCU.
Kansas State 5, Cal State Bakersfield 4
In Bakersfield, Calif., Nick Martini has a
run-scoring single in the top of the ninth to lift Kansas State
over Cal State Bakersfield at Hardt Field. James Allen retired
the Roadrunners (24-12) in order in the bottom of the ninth to
earn his 14th save. Kayvon Bahramzadeh (2-0, 1.1 IP, 2 K) got
the win in relief for the Wildcats (25-15). Martini finished 4
for 5 with one run and two RBI, while Jason King added a
three-run homer in a four-run fifth fir KSU. Mark Medina went 3
for 5 with a homer and two RBI for CSUB.
Stanford 9, California 5
In Stanford, Calif., Jake Stewart drove in four
as Stanford won the nonconference contest with California at
Sunken Diamond. Stephen Piscotty (2 for 4) had a two-run single
in the first to start the scoring for the Cardinal (20-13).
Stewart (3 for 5, 2 R) had a pair of two-run doubles, one in the
fourth and another in the sixth, to push the lead to 7-0.
Michael Theofanopoulos had a three-run homer in the seventh for
the Golden Bears (24-13). Brian Busick (1-0, 3 IP, 3 H, 3 K)
earned the win in relief.
Connecticut 9, Quinnipiac 0
In Storrs, Conn., Tim Martin had two hits and
drove in three as Connecticut blanked Quinnipiac at J.O.
Christian Field. The Huskies (27-12-1) scored two in the sixth
and seven in the seventh. Mike Nemeth went 3 for 3 with two runs
and one RBI. Five pitchers combined on the shutout, as Will
Jolin (2-1, 3 IP, 3 H, 1 BB, 5 K) registered the win in relief.
Ben Farina, Zak Palmer and Kyle Nisson each had two hits for the
Bobcats (14-23).
