Virginia remains unanimous No. 1 in CBI Composite Poll

South Carolina stays in second, Vanderbilt sits third, Florida up to fourth

 

After a 4-1 week, including an ACC series victory over NC State, Virginia remains a unanimous No. 1 in the CollegeBaseballInsider.com Composite Poll.

 

The Cavaliers won 12-0 at Radford on Tuesday and beat Richmond 12-1 on Wednesday. After being rained out on Friday, the Wolfpack defeated UVa 6-2 in the opener of Saturday's doubleheader before the Cavs took the nightcap 3-1 and won the series with a 7-6 victory on Sunday.

 

South Carolina went 3-1 to stay at No. 2. The Gamecocks won at College of Charleston on Tuesday before winning two of three SEC contests at Mississippi State. South Carolina is second in two polls and third in the other two.

 

Vanderbilt had a 3-0 week to remain third. The Commodores swept a three-game SEC set at home from LSU. Vanderbilt is second in two polls, third in one and fourth in the other.

 

Florida went 3-1 to rise one spot to fourth. The Gators lost at UCF on Wednesday before sweeping a three-game SEC series at home against Alabama. Florida is fourth in one poll and fifth in the other three.

 

Texas was 3-1 and dropped one place to fifth. The Longhorns topped Texas-Pan American on Tuesday before taking two of three Big 12 contests at Kansas. Texas is fourth in two polls, fifth in one poll and seventh in the other.

 

There are two new teams in this week's poll. Southern Miss checks in at No. 16 and Miami (Fla.) is No. 17.

 

There are five ACC teams in this week's poll and four from the SEC, including three of the top four. There are three teams from the Big 12 and Pac-10, two from the Big West and single entries from Conference USA, Mountain West and WAC.
