Southern Miss, which never trailed in its series against Mississippi State, picked up three home wins in a sweep of the Bulldogs and is the CollegeBaseballInsider.com National Team of the Week for the first week of the college baseball season.
Regional Teams of the Week (note – regions are grouped by conference)
Northeast – St. John’s, coming off a 42-win season, opened the 2018 season by posting a three-game sweep at Campbell, allowing two earned runs along the way.
Southeast – Notre Dame, picked near the bottom of the ACC preseason poll by the league’s coaches, traveled to Alex Box Stadium and took two of three from No. 11 LSU.
Central – Wichita State opened its season by traveling to McNeese, where the Shockers won three times and scored 10 or more runs in all three games.
West – The David Esquer era at Stanford couldn’t have gotten off to a better start as the Cardinal earned a three-game sweep of Cal State Fullerton.
