After hitting a game-tying homer in the eighth, Jared Jones delivered a game-winning RBI single to cap a three-run ninth as No. 6 LSU nipped No. 3 Arkansas 6-5 on Wednesday evening to advance to the College World Series Championship Series vs. No. 13 Coastal Carolina.
Ryder Helfrick homered in the top of the fourth as the Razorbacks () took an early 1-0 lead.
Jake Brown laced a two-run single to left center in the sixth as the Tigers () took a 2-1 edge.
Helfrick had an RBI fielder’s choice and Wehiwa Aloy scored on a muffed throw to first in the top of the eighth as Arkansas reclaimed the lead at 3-2.
Jones smacked a home run with two away in the bottom of the eighth as LSU leveled the score at 3-3.
Justin Thomas Jr. stroked a two-run single to left in the top of the ninth to put the Hogs on top 5-3.
With one away in the bottom of the ninth, Derek Curiel reached on an infield single and went to second on an error. Ethan Frey followed with a walk. Steven Milam hit a potential game-ending double-play ball to short. Aloy threw to third to get the second out of the inning. Luis Hernandez hit a ball to left that Charles Davalan could not catch, turning into a two-run double that tied the game at 5-5. Jones hit a single to center off the glove of second baseman Cam Kozeal to drive home Hernandez with the game-winning run.
