Casan Evans fanned five over 4.1 innings of relief in the resumption of Monday’s suspended game as No. 6 LSU topped No. 15 UCLA 9-5 on Tuesday morning in Game 8 of the 2025 College World Series.
Evans (5-1) allowed four hits and two runs with no walks.
On Monday evening, the Bruins (48-17) tallied three in the top of the first, with an RBI double by Roman Martin, a run-scoring single by AJ Salgado and an RBI groundout by Payton Brennan. Jake Brown had an RBI single in the bottom of the first before Jared Jones belted a three-run homer to give the Tigers (50-15) a 4-3 edge.
A run-scoring single by Luis Hernandez gave LSU a 5-3 edge in the bottom of the third before play was halted ahead of the fourth.
In the bottom of the fourth, Steven Milam and Brown delivered RBI singles to extend the lead to 7-3. Daniel Dickinson drove in a run with a base hit in the seventh as the Tigers took an 8-3 advantage.
Brennan and Blake Balsz knocked in runs in the top of the eighth as UCLA pulled within three at 8-5.
Jones added an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth to put LSU up 9-5.
Jones went 2 for 4 with two runs and four RBI for the Tigers. Brown had three hits, two RBI and one run. Ethan Frey was 1 for 2 with three walks and four runs.
Brennan had two RBI, while Mulivai Levu had two hits and scored twice for the Bruins.
