Karl Kuhn, the pitching coach at the University of Virginia for the past 16 years, has been named the head baseball coach at Radford University.
Kuhn replaces Joe Raccuia, who resigned recently.
For the past 16 seasons, Kuhn worked with head coach Brian O’Connor with the Cavaliers.
The 2014 Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Assistant Coach of the Year, Kuhn helped UVA post 700 wins, including 484 in the past 11 seasons, the seventh most in Division I. Virginia qualified for the NCAA Tournament in 14 of the past 16 years, advanced to the College World Series four times (2009, 2011, 2014 & 2015) and won the program’s first National Championship in 2015.
The Cavalier pitching staff has been ranked in the Top 20 in the nation in ERA in nine of Kuhn’s 16 seasons at Virginia, one of five programs to accomplish the feat in that span. In 2011, Virginia owned a 2.24 team ERA, the lowest in the nation. Kuhn has worked with 17 All-Americans, while 44 have been selected in the MLB Draft.
