Former Major Leaguer Willie Bloomquist has returned to his alma mater as head coach at Arizona State. He played in the major leagues for 14 years. For the past five years, he has been a Special Assistant to Arizona Diamondbacks President & CEO Derrick Hall. Bloomquist played for the Sun Devils from 1997-99. (full ASU release)
Gary Henderson was promoted to head coach at Utah. He had been Associate Head Coach the past two years. With 31 years of coaching experience, Henderson has coach at Florida, Oregon State, Kentucky and Mississippi State. (full Utah release)
Jose Cruz Jr. has been hired by his alma mater, Rice, as head coach. He is the first alum to lead the Owls since 1952. Cruz batted .377 in his final season at Rice in 1995 with 16 homers, 76 RBI and 76 walks, the top mark in the nation. He was the third overall pick by Seattle in the 1995 MLB Draft. Cruz made his major league debut in 1997 and retired in 2008. (full Rice release)
Northern Kentucky has promoted Dizzy Peyton to be its third head coach in program history. He spent the past 17 years as an assistant coach with the Norse, helping in the move from Division II to Division I. Peyton pitched on season for NKU in 2003 before Tommy John surgery ended his playing career. He succeeds Todd Asalon, who retired after 21 years as head coach of the Norse. (full NKU release)
