Murray State advances to College World Series
Luke Mistone belted a leadoff homer in the top of the eighth to snap a 3-3 tie as Murray State edged Duke to earn the first College World Series appearance in program history. Jonathan Hogart led off the game with a homer and Dom Decker added an RBI single later in the frame as the Racers took a 2-0 lead. Jake Hyde delivered a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first and went deep in the third to level the score at 2-2. Jake Berger had a leadoff homer in the fourth as the Blue Devils went up 3-2. Hogart went deep a second time in the seventh to tie the game at 3-3. After Mistone homered in the eighth, Dan Tauken added an RBI triple later in the inning to give Murray State a 5-3 lead. Macon Winslow went deep in the bottom of the eighth to pull Duke within one. Wallace Clark was plunked to start the bottom of the ninth. With one away, Ben Miller hit a grounder to second. Runner interference was called at second base, meaning the double play ended the game, setting off a celebration for the Racers. Duke requested that the play be reviewed and the call was reversed, giving the Blue Devils a runner on first with two away. A groundout to first ended the contest, sparking a second dogpile for the Racers. Graham Kelham (4-1) pitched the final 2.2 innings with one hit, one walk and four strikeouts to earn the win.
