Chapel Hill: No. 4 North Carolina 8, West Virginia 6 (UNC leads series 1-0)

Vance Honeycutt belted a two-run homer with two away in the bottom of the ninth as UNC rallied past WVU. Kyle West (3 for 4, 4 RBI) had a solo homer in the top of the third for the Mountaineers (36-23) before a two-run single by Parks Harber sparked a four-run rally in the bottom of the frame gave the Tar Heels (46-14) a 4-1 advantage. West had a run-scoring single in the fourth and his two-run homer capped a four-run sixth as WVU took a 6-4 lead. Colby Wilkerson went deep in the seventh and Luke Stevenson led off the bottom of the ninth with a dinger to level the score at 6-6. Alex Madera singled with one away before Honeycutt (2 for 4, 2 R, 2 RBI) homered with two outs to secure the win for UNC. Matt Poston (5-2) worked three scoreless innings with no hits or walks and four strikeouts to record the win. Derek Clark fanned eight in 8.1 innings for the Mountaineers, throwing 144 pitches.

Charlottesville: No. 12 Virginia 7, Kansas State 4 (UVA leads series 1-0)

Henry Godbout snapped a 4-4 tie with a three-run homer in the bottom of the seventh as UVA came from behind to top KSU. Kaelen Culpepper had a two-run double in the top of the third as the Wildcats (35-25) took a 3-0 lead. The Cavaliers (45-15) tallied two in the fifth and a two-run double by Griff O’Ferrall in the sixth put UVA on top 4-3. A home run by David Bishop in the top of the seventh tied the game at 4-4 before Godbout’s blast in the bottom of the frame put the Cavs ahead for good. Evan Blanco (8-3, 7.0 IP, 5 H, 4 R, BB) struck out nine in earning the win. Matt Augustin recorded the final two outs for his first save.

Knoxville: No. 1 Tennessee 11, Evansville 6 (UT leads series 1-0)

Blake Burke had an RBI double to break a 5-5 and spark a three-run fifth as UT outscored EU. Burke went deep in the first before a two-run shot by Cal McGinnis in the top of the second put the Purple Aces (38-25) on top 2-1. Christian Moore smacked a two-run homer and Billy Amick added a long ball in the third before a sac fly by Dean Curley gave the Vols (54-11) a 5-2 advantage. Kip Fougerousse had a two-run double and scored on a base hit by Chase Hug to tie the game at 5-5. Hunter Ensley had a run-scoring single in the fifth and a three-run homer in the seventh for UT.

Tallahassee: No. 8 Florida State 24, UConn 4 (FSU leads series 1-0)

Jaime Ferrer had two of the five home runs for the Seminoles as FSU thumped UConn. Ferrer had a solo shot in the first and a two-run dinger in the sixth. James Tibbs III and Marco Dinges both knocked in four for the Seminoles (46-15). Jake Studley went 3 for 4 with a double and two RBI for the Huskies (35-25).
