Chapel Hill Super Regional
USC 9, #5 North Carolina 5 (box score)
Dean Carpetier smacked a grand slam to cap a five-run sixth as USC erased an early 5-1 deficit in defeating UNC in Game 1 of the Chapel Hill Super Regional. Tyler Howe scored in the first and the fifth as the Tar Heels (48-12-1) built a 5-1 advantage. Kevin Takeuchi had an RBI single in the sixth before Carpetier’s blast put the Trojans (48-16) on top 6-5. Isaac Cadena, Jack Basser and Andrew Lamb knocked in runs in the seventh as USC went up 9-5. Andrew Johnson tossed 3.2 scoreless innings with two hits and two strikeouts to record his first save.
Morgantown Super Regional
#16 West Virginia 12, Cal Poly 2 (box score)
Tyrus Hall had a grand slam and knocked in five as WVU thumped Cal Poly to win the first game of the Morgantown Super Regional. Sean Smith (3 for 4, 3 R) had a three-run homer in the bottom of the first as the Mountaineers (44-15) took the early lead. Dylan Kordic (2 for 4) went deep in the fourth for the Mustangs (39-23) to make it 3-1. Brodie Kresser had an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth and Hall hit a grand slam later in the frame for an 8-1 advantage. Hall added a sacrifice fly in the seventh. Chansen Cole (10-1, 8 H, 2 R) fanned 11 in 7.0 innings in earning the victory.
Troy Super Regional
Troy 12, Little Rock 2 (box score)
Jabe Boroff homered twice and drove in six as Troy topped Little Rock in Game 1 of the Troy Super Regional. Boroff had a two-run homer in the sixth to give the home Trojans (37-30) an 8-2 edge. His grand slam in the eighth pushed the lead to 12-2. Drew Nelson went 3 for 4 with three runs and two RBI, while Steven Meier had three hits and scored three times for Troy. Blake Smith knocked in two for the visiting Trojans (39-27).
