In Oxford, Miss., Reid Detmers allowed one run and struck out nine in five innings, and Louisville scored four times in the sixth and three more in the ninth in a win over Ole Miss. Zach Britton drove in a pair of runs, and leadoff man Luke Brown had two hits and two runs for the Cardinals (1-0), who won two close games against the Rebels (0-1) last year. Justin Bench and Anthony Servideo each had two hits and an RBI for Ole Miss.
Michigan 4, No. 1 Vanderbilt 3 (box score)
In Scottsdale, Ariz., Matthew Schmidt belted a two-run homer in the top of the ninth as Michigan rallied past Vandy. The Commodores scored twice in the seventh to take a 3-2 advantage. Ben Keizer (1.2 IP, H, 2 K) earned the win, while Isaiah Paige worked out of trouble in the ninth to record the save. Schmidt and Jordan Nwogu both had two hits for the Wolverines. Cooper Davis had a pair of hits for Vandy.
No. 5 Georgia 7, Richmond 6 (box score)
In Athens, Ga., Garrett Blaylock homered to tie the game in the top of the ninth, and Cole Tate ended it with a walkoff single as Georgia rallied from a 6-2 deficit to beat Richmond. Drew Blakely went 4 for 5 with two runs, and Johnny Hipsman (2 for 5, 2 R, 2 RBI) and Dominic Toso (2 for 5, 2 R) each homered as the Spiders (0-1) scored three in the third and fourth innings for a 6-2 lead. Tate went 4 for 5 with a homer and three RBI, and Blaylock and Tucker Bradley (2 for 3, HR) each drove in two runs for the Bulldogs.
No. 7 Arkansas 5, Eastern Illinois 1 (box score)
In Fayetteville, Ark., Connor Noland struck out 11 and allowed one unearned run in 6.2 innings, and Heston Kjerstad went 3 for 4 with two homers and three RBI as Arkansas topped Eastern Illinois. Christian Franklin homered and drove in two for the Razorbacks (1-0). Grant Emme had two of EIU’s four hits and scored its lone run.
No. 8 Mississippi State 9, Wright State 6 (box score)
In Starkville, Miss., Justin Foscue and Rowdey Jordan each drove in two runs in a six-run sixth inning as Mississippi State rebounded from a 5-2 deficit to beat Wright State. Josh Hatcher added two hits and two runs for the Bulldogs (1-0). Zane Harris drove in three runs, and Quincy Hamilton added two hits and two runs for the Raiders (0-1).
Niagara 3, No. 14 Florida State 1 (box score)
In Tallahassee, Fla., Peter Battaglia and Josh Marchese each walked with the bases loaded, and Spencer Marcus had an infield single as Niagara scored three times in the top of the ninth inning to stun Florida State. Alex MacKinnon struck out five in two hitless innings as Purple Eagles pitchers combined to strike out 14. CJ Van Eyk struck out eight and allowed two hits in five scoreless innings for the Seminoles, who fell in Mike Martin Jr.’s first game.
Army 2, No. 15 Duke 1 (box score)
In Durham, N.C., Logan Smith was masterful, allowing one hit and striking out 10 in seven scoreless innings as Army edged Duke. Tim Simoes went 2 for 4 with a run, and Brendan Siriani had the lone RBI for the Black Knights (1-0). Chris Crabtress had one of three hits and scored the lone run for the Blue Devils (1-0).
No. 17 North Carolina 15, Middle Tennessee 3 (box score)
In Chapel Hill, N.C., Eric Grintz went 2 for 5 with a double and four RBI, and Danny Serretti went 2 for 5 with three runs and two RBI as North Carolina rolled past Middle Tennessee. Joey Lancelotti and Angel Zarate each had two hits and two RBI as the Tar Heels rattled out three runs in the second, two in the third and five in the fourth to build a 10-2 lead. Nathan Sanders had a homer and two RBI for the Blue Raiders.
No. 20 Wake Forest 4, Seton Hall 3 (box score)
In Winston Salem, N.C., Chris Lanzilli’s solo homer in the bottom of the ninth gave Wake Forrest a walkoff win over Seton Hall. Lanzilli had two hits and was joined by Brendan Tinsman and William Simoneit, who each provided two hits and a run for the Demon Deacons. Jerry Huntzinger had two hits and a run to pace the Pirates.
