Duke wins ACC series
against No. 16 Virginia
Fullerton stops Arizona; Saint Joseph's
records no-hitter vs. Saint Peter's
In Durham, N.C., Grant Monroe (3-1) allowed one
run in seven innings as Duke registered 4-1 victory Sunday
and an ACC series win against No. 16 Virginia. Alex Hassan went
3 for 4 with a double and two runs for the Blue Devils (3-3,
16-3) before pitching the final two innings to earn his second
save of the series. Jarrett Parker had an RBI double in the
second for the Cavaliers (2-4, 14-4).
No. 21 Cal State Fullerton 10, No. 2 Arizona 7
In Tucson, Ariz., Jared Clark homered and drove
in four as Cal State Fullerton salvaged the final game of their
series with Arizona, snapping the 12-game win streak of the
Wildcats (12-2). Clark’s two-run homer highlighted a five-run
first for the Titans (9-7). Cory Arbiso (2-2) held UA hitless
until Brad Glenn homered to lead off the fifth.
Saint Joseph’s 11, Saint Peter’s 0
In Philadelphia, Randy Mower, Dominic Favazza and
Chris Prescott combined on a seven-inning no-hitter for Saint
Joseph’s against Saint Peter’s at Hank DeVincent Field on the
campus of La Salle. The trio faced just 21 batters, as a
third-inning walk was erased on a double play. Mower started and
worked the first two innings. Favazza (1-1) worked four innings
with one walk and two strikeouts. Prescott fanned two in the
seventh. It was the third combined no-hitter and sixth in school
history for the Hawks (6-10). It was the first no-no for St.
Joe’s since Dave Landers held Albright without a hit in April of
1970.
No. 1 Arizona State 7, Troy 1
In Tempe, Ariz., Mike Leake fanned seven in six
innings as Arizona State completed the three-game sweep of Troy.
Leake (4-0) allowed five hits and one run. Brett Wallace went 2
for 3 with a two-run homer for the Sun Devils (17-0). Raoul
Torrez also went deep for ASU. Petey Paramore had a two-run
double for the Sun Devils.
No. 3 North Carolina 6, Virginia Tech 0
In Cary, N.C., Matt Harvey (2-1) fanned six in
6.1 innings with four hits and one walk as North Carolina
completed the three-game ACC sweep of Virginia Tech. Kyle Seager
drove in three for the Tar Heels (5-1, 14-3), including a
two-run single in a four-run seventh. Tim Fedroff had three hits
and an RBI for UNC. Jesse Hahn (1-2) allowed two earned runs in
six innings for the Hokies (0-6, 7-11).
Kansas 7, No. 14 Texas 2
In Austin, Texas, Ryne Price’s two-run single
highlighted a four-run seventh as Kansas salvaged the final game
of their Big 12 series with Texas. Texas native Sam Freeman
fanned three in six innings for the Jayhawks (1-2, 11-7).
Brandon Belt had a two-run homer in the sixth for the Longhorns
(2-1, 12-5).
