Zaleski's single in
ninth lifts Sam Houston over No. 6 Rice
No. 1 Arizona State thumps New Mexico; No.
2 Arizona nips UNLV
In Huntsville, Texas, Nick Zaleski’s RBI single
in the bottom of the ninth gave Sam Houston State a dramatic
13-12 win over No. 6 Rice Tuesday. Todd Sebek’s base hit in the
ninth for the Bearkats (5-3) tied the game. Sebek had three
hits, three runs and three RBI. Adam Zornes’ two-run homer in
the eighth had given the Owls (6-3) a three-run lead at 12-9.
No. 1 Arizona State 18, New Mexico 1
In Tempe, Ariz., Kiel Roling homered and drove in
five as Arizona State manhandled New Mexico. Roling had a
three-run homer in the fifth and a two-run single in the
seventh. Marcel Champagnie and Brett Wallace also went deep for
the Sun Devils (8-0).
No. 2 Arizona 6, UNLV 5
In Tucson, Ariz., C.J. Ziegler’s sixth home run
of the season snapped a 5-5 tie in the bottom of the seventh as
Arizona snuck past UNLV. Ziegler also doubled and scored twice
for the Wildcats (6-1). Steve Rinaudo had a three-run double for
the Rebels (5-4).
No. 3 Ole Miss 8, Southern Miss 5
In Oxford, Miss., Evan Button had three hits,
including a home run, as Ole Miss got by Southern Miss. Michael
Hubbard had two hits and four RBI for the Rebels (9-0).
Hubbard’s two-run single capped a four-run fourth for Ole Miss.
Michael Ewing homered for the Golden Eagles (6-3).
No. 4 North Carolina 10, William & Mary 2
In Cary, N.C., Tim Fedroff went 3 for 4 with a
homer and four RBI as North Carolina whipped William & Mary.
Federoff’s two-run homer highlighted a five-run fourth as the
Tar Heels (8-1) built a 9-2 lead over the Tribe (7-3). Garrett
Gore had two hits and two RBI for UNC. Mike Sheridan had two
hits for W&M.
No. 7 Miami (Fla.) 9, Lehigh 2
In Coral Gables, Fla., Joey Terdoslavich had two
hits, including a home run, and three RBI as Miami got by
Lehigh. Jemile Weeks had three hits, two runs and three steals
for the Hurricanes (6-1). Austin Borden had a two-run single for
the Mountain Hawks (4-6).
No. 9 Texas 16, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 7
In Austin, Texas, Cameron Rupp went 4 for 5 with
two doubles, two runs and four RBI as Texas outscored Texas
A&M-Corpus Christi. Tant Shepherd also went 4 for 5 for the
Longhorns (7-2) with two doubles, three runs and three RBI.
Jacob Perales had two hits and two runs for the Islanders (2-6).
Cal State Fullerton 7, No. 11 UCLA 1
In Fullerton, Calif., Jeff Kaplan pitched six
shutout innings as Cal State Fullerton stopped UCLA at Goodwin
Field. Kaplan (2-1) had two hits and struck out eight for the
Titans (4-4). Josh Fellhauer had two doubles for Fullerton.
Jermaine Curtis had two hits for the Bruins (5-2).
No. 12 Florida State 11, UNC Asheville 4
In Tallahassee, Fla., Dennis Guinn had three hits
to lead Florida State past UNC Asheville. Buster Posey drove in
three for the Seminoles (8-0). Justin Schumer went deep for the
Bulldogs (4-5).
Louisiana Tech 9, No. 15 Baylor 6
In Waco, Texas, Louisiana Tech scored five in the
ninth to upset Baylor. Clint Stubbs had a two-run single for the
Bulldogs (7-3) in the ninth that tied the game at 6-6. Clay
Alexander’s pinch-hit two-run single gave Tech an 8-6 lead. The
Bears (7-1) scored single runs in the seventh and eighth for a
6-4 advantage.
No. 16 UC Irvine 4, San Diego 0
In Irvine, Calif., UC Irvine registered its
fourth consecutive shutout as the Anteaters (8-0) blanked
San Diego (5-5). Daniel Bibona (2-0) fanned a career-high 12 in
six innings for UCI with four hits and one walk. Ollie Linton
had a two-run single for the Anteaters.
No. 19 Oregon State 16, Portland 0
In Portland, Ore., Joey Wong tied a single-game
record with five hits as Oregon State pummeled Portland. Wong
lacked a triple for the cycle. He homered in the fourth, his
second of the season. Daniel Robertson had three hits and two
runs for the Beavers (4-3). The Pilots (6-4) did not get
their first hit until Eric Brown’s single with one out in the
eighth.
No. 20 Wichita State 9, Le Moyne 8
In Wichita, Kan., Cody Lassley’s two-out RBI
single in the bottom of the ninth gave Wichita State the win
over Le Moyne. Ryan Jones had a leadoff double in the ninth for
the Shockers (4-3) and scored on Lassley’s hit. Jones had three
hits, two runs and an RBI. Stephen Crawford had a two-run single
in the second for the Dolphins (2-6).
