Nathan Dettmer tossed seven scoreless innings as TAMU eliminated ND.
Dettmer (6-3) gave up three hits with no walks and six strikeouts. Joseph Menefee worked two scoreless frames with one hit, one walk and two punchouts to record his second save.
“I thought it was a great ball game,” TAMU head coach Jim Schlossnagle said. “Nathan was just outstanding in every sense of the word, coming back on short rest, which is exactly what we needed. And we got enough timely hits.”
Dylan Rock reached on a throwing error in the third and knocked in a run for the Aggies. A second run came in on an error and a third scored on a double play as TAMU took a 3-0 lead.
Trevor Werner (2 for 4, 2 R) homered in the fifth and Rock added a run-scoring single later in the frame to give the Aggies a 5-0 advantage.
Brooks Coetzee went deep in the eighth for the lone run for the Irish.
Jared Miller finished with three hits for ND.
“If there’s a place you want to end it, it’s obviously here,” ND head coach Link Jarrett said. “How we ended it was tough. That hurts. That wasn’t indicative of how our team plays. But we just gave them so many opportunities to capitalize. And they did.”
