Calvin Harris went 3 for 4 with two doubles, a homer and four RBI as Ole Miss beat Arkansas to remain undefeated in Omaha and in the NCAA Tournament.
Hunter Elliott (5-3) was the starter and winner, going 6.1 innings with six hits, one earned run, two walks and four strikeouts.
“We were terrific tonight,” Ole Miss head coach Mike Bianco said. “Just really played well and it starts on the mound. And Hunter was just like he’s pitched the second half of the season.”
The Rebels put up a pair in the top of the first as Kevin Graham delivered an RBI single and Hayden Dunhurst walked with the bases loaded.
Braydon Webb had a leadoff single in the bottom of the frame and scored on a two-out double by Michael Turner as the Razorbacks made it 2-1.
In the top of the second, Justin Bench had a one-out double and Tim Elko belted a two-run homer to give Ole Miss a 4-1 lead.
In the bottom of the second, Robert Moore reached on an error, went to third on a double by Jalen Battles and scored on a groundout by Peyton Stovall. Zack Gregory laid down a safety squeeze that scored Battles as the Hogs trailed 4-3.
Harris had a two-run double in the top of the third as Ole Miss went up 6-3.
Harris had a two-run single in the fifth followed by RBI singles from Jacob Gonzalez and Graham as the Rebels took a 10-3 advantage.
In the eighth, Bench had a two-run single and scored on a fielder’s choice by Elko as the lead grew to 13-3.
Stovall had a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth as the game ended 13-5.
“Obviously we didn’t pitch very good,” Arkansas head coach Dave Van Horn said. “Got off to a bad start. We just didn’t pitch very well. And you’ve got to give credit to Hunter Elliott. He did. He came out and he gave them some quality innings and let them build up a lead.”
Arkansas will face Auburn in an elimination game on Tuesday. The winner of that game must beat Ole Miss twice to advance to the CWS championship series.
