UC Irvine
is CBI Louisville Slugger Team of the Week
UC Irvine went 4-0 this past week, including a three-game sweep
of nationally-ranked UC Santa Barbara, and has been named the
CollegeBaseballInsider.com Louisville Slugger Team of the Week for games played
April 28-May 4.
The Anteaters started the week with a 6-2 win on Tuesday at USC,
snapping a nine-game win streak by the Trojans. UCI hosted the Gauchos over the
weekend and posted wins of 6-2 on Friday, 3-2 on Saturday and 8-0 on Sunday to
extend its win streak to seven and maintain a hold of first place in the Big
West.
Regional Teams of the Week
Northeast: Saint Joseph’s put
together a 3-1 week. The Hawks defeated Rider before taking to of three from
Richmond to stay in first place in the Atlantic 10.
Southeast: Florida had a 3-0 week,
sweeping a three-game SEC series at No. 16 Alabama to stay atop the standings in
the Eastern Division.
Central: Kansas went 4-0, winning at
Wichita State prior to a three-game Big 12 sweep of Texas Tech to stretch its
win streak to seven and move into third place in the conference standings.
West: Loyola Marymount had a 3-1
week. The Lions defeated San Diego State before taking two of three from
first-place Pepperdine to climb within 1.5 games of first in the West Coast
Conference.
Honorable Mention
Oklahoma State enjoyed a 4-0 week,
winning at Wichita State before sweeping a three-game home set from Arizona
State.
Texas A&M went 3-1, defeating Texas
State prior to winning two of three from No. 6 LSU in SEC play.
Houston had a 4-1 week, beating
McNeese State twice before taking two of three from first-place UCF in American
action.
TCU was 4-0, winning at Stephen F.
Austin before sweeping a three-game Big 12 set from Kansas State to extend its
win streak to 12.
Louisville put together a 4-0 week,
beating Ohio State and going 3-0 at USF in American action to stretch its win
streak to 10.
West Virginia took two of three from
No. 14 Texas in Big 12 play.
Sam Houston State had a 4-0 week,
winning at Baylor before sweeping a Southland series from Stephen F. Austin to
extend its win streak to eight and sit in a tie for second, one game out of
first.
Canisius swept a three-game Metro
Atlantic set at Quinnipiac to stay in first place and stretch its win streak to
nine.
Western Carolina had a 4-0 week,
beating Wake Forest before sweeping a three-game set from Appalachian State to
move into first in the Southern Conference.
UIC went 5-0, defeating Northern
Illinois and winning at Bradley before sweeping a three-game Horizon series
against Milwaukee to stretch its win streak to eight.
