Penn
is the CBI Louisville Slugger Team of the Week
Penn put together an incredible 9-0 week, including eight Ivy
League victories, and has been named the CollegeBaseballInsider.com Louisville
Slugger Team of the Week for games played March 31-April 6.
After rainouts the previous weekend, the Quakers swept home
doubleheaders from Yale on Monday and Brown on Tuesday. Penn defeated Lafayette
on Wednesday in the first round of the Liberty Bell Classic. The Quakers then
hit the road to win doubleheaders at Harvard on Saturday and at Dartmouth on
Sunday. Penn owns a three-game lead in the Ivy League’s Lou Gehrig Division. The
Quakers extended their win streak to 11, their longest since winning 19 in a row
in 1989.
Northeast: Fairfield won six of
seven games, taking two MAAC contests from Saint Peter’s, defeating NYIT,
winning at Northeastern and taking two of three from first-place Canisius in
MAAC play.
Southeast: Kentucky went 3-1 against
nationally-ranked teams, defeating eighth-ranked Louisville prior to taking two
of three from No. 16 Florida in SEC action.
Central: Nebraska had a 4-1 week,
splitting a pair at Arkansas before sweeping a Big Ten series from Ohio State.
West: Washington held onto first
place in the Pac-12 by taking two of three from No. 12 Oregon.
Honorable Mention
Indiana State went 4-0, downing
Austin Peay before sweeping a Missouri Valley set from Wichita State to move
into second place.
Cal Poly put together a 3-1 week,
defeating CSU Bakersfield before winning two of three from No. 20 UC Santa
Barbara.
Texas had a terrific 4-0 week,
winning at No. 14 Rice prior to sweeping a three-game Big 12 series from Baylor.
College of Charleston went 4-0 on
the road, winning at Jacksonville before sweeping a three-game CAA set at
Towson.
Liberty was 4-1, defeating Duke and
rebounding from a loss at Maryland to post three Big South shutouts against VMI.
Kansas had a 3-1 week, winning
against Wichita State before taking two of three at Big 12-rival Kansas State.
Davidson went 4-0, winning against
Winthrop before sweeping a three-game SoCon set at Furman.
LSU registered a 4-0 week, defeating
McNeese State before sweeping a three-game SEC series from tenth-ranked
Mississippi State.
Louisiana-Lafayette was 4-0,
defeating Tulane before sweeping a three-game Sun Belt set at Troy.
Sacramento State went 4-0, topping
San Francisco and sweeping a three-game WAC series from Seattle to extend its
win streak to 12 games.
