Texas Tech is CBI Louisville Slugger Team of
Week
Texas Tech opened its season by taking three of four from seventh-ranked Indiana
and has been named the CollegeBaseballInsider.com Louisville Slugger Team of the
Week.
The Red Raiders dropped the season opener 1-0 before reeling off three straight
wins – a doubleheader sweep by scores of 10-5 and 6-2. In the finale, Texas Tech
clinched the series with a 7-0 win.
Regional Teams of the Week
Northeast: VCU
traveled to Atlanta and picked up three wins. The Rams topped Radford 9-4 and
Old Dominion 6-3 before knocking off homestanding Georgia Tech 5-3.
Southeast: Tennessee
opened its year by taking three straight games from Purdue, allowing a total of
four runs: 3-0, 20-2 and 8-2.
Central: McNeese State
got off to a great start under new coach Justin Hill, beating Chicago State 9-3,
Missouri 3-2 and Southern Miss 7-1.
West: Cal Poly welcomed defending Big 12 champ Kansas State and notched a
sweep of the Wildcats by scores of 3-0, 5-2 and 10-1.
Honorable Mention
College of Charleston
took two of three at home against 13th-ranked North Carolina.
South Florida
picked up three wins against Liberty, Richmond and North Florida
George Mason
went 3-0 with two wins over Morehead State and one over USC Upstate
Seattle
went 3-1 in its series with UC Davis
USC
got off to a hot start, sweeping three games against Northwestern
Oregon
traveled to Honolulu and posted four straight wins against Hawaii
Oregon State
opened the season in Tempe, Ariz., where the Beavers beat Gonzaga, Nebraska and
Pacific twice.
Pittsburgh
went on the road and took two of three from Coastal Carolina
Georgia Southern
traveled to in-state rival Georgia and took two of three from the Bulldogs
Houston
allowed two runs in three close wins over Nicholls State
