Vanderbilt is CBI Louisville Slugger Team of Week
Vanderbilt posted four victories against nationally-ranked
opponents this past week, including a three-game SEC sweep of No. 14 Mississippi
State. The Commodores have been named the CollegeBaseballInsider.com Louisville
Slugger Team of the Week for the second time in the past three weeks.
The Commodores began the week with a 10-2 victory at No. 11
Louisville on Tuesday. Vanderbilt then beat the Bulldogs three times, 3-1 on
Friday, 5-2 on Saturday and 8-3 on Sunday.
Regional Teams of the Week
Northeast: Rider rode through a 3-1
week, winning 8-6 at Princeton on Wednesday before taking two of three at Siena
in a battle for first in the MAAC. The Broncs lost 7-4 in Saturday’s DH opener
before posting 8-2 and 6-4 victories to win the series.
Southeast: Virginia Tech went 3-1,
beating VMI 9-6 on Tuesday in Lexington before taking two of three at home from
No. 5 Virginia in ACC action. The Cavaliers won 15-6 on Friday before the Hokies
swept Saturday’s doubleheader, 5-3 and 11-6.
Central: West Virginia put together
a 4-0 week, winning 7-6 at Youngstown State on Wednesday before sweeping a Big
12 series from Kansas with three one-run victories. The Mountaineers picked up a
1-0 win on Friday before taking two on Saturday, 4-3 and 3-2 in 12 innings.
West: Oregon was 4-0, winning 11-7 at Portland on Tuesday before sweeping
a Pac-12 set from Stanford. The Ducks won 2-1 on Friday, 6-4 on Saturday and 4-3
on Sunday.
Honorable Mention
New Mexico put a stranglehold on
first in the Mountain West with a three-game sweep of second-place UNLV to
extend its win streak to 10, including nine in conference.
Oklahoma State enjoyed a 5-0 week,
with two wins over Nebraska and single victories over Wichita State, Rutgers and
Creighton.
Indiana went 5-0, beating Eastern
Kentucky and Indiana State before sweeping a three-game Big Ten series from
Michigan to move into a tie for first and stretch its win streak to eight.
Oregon State was 4-0, winning at
Seattle before its first-ever three-game sweep of USC to stay in first in the
Pac-12.
North Florida swept a three-game
Atlantic Sun set at Jacksonville for the first time to maintain its perch in
first place.
South Alabama put together a 5-0
week, beating Jacksonville State twice before winning three at ULM to hold onto
first in the Sun Belt.
UCF swept a three-game Conference
USA series from Houston to climb into second place.
Clemson went 3-1, topping Western
Carolina before taking two of three from No. 18 Georgia Tech.
Troy had a 3-1 week, stopping
Samford before taking two of three at Florida Atlantic to take sole possession
of second in the Sun Belt.
Navy was 5-0, winning at MEAC leader
Delaware State before sweeping a four-game set at Lehigh to take second in the
Patriot League and earn a home series in the semifinals.
