Virginia is CBI Louisville Slugger Team of Week
Virginia went 4-0 at home, including a three-game ACC sweep of
No. 6 Florida State. The Cavaliers have been named the
CollegeBaseballInsider.com Louisville Slugger Team of the Week.
Virginia rallied to edge Old Dominion 10-9 in 10 innings on
Wednesday to begin its week. After a rainout on Friday, the Cavaliers swept a
doubleheader from the Seminoles on Saturday, 9-2 and 2-0. Virginia completed the
series sweep with a 5-2 victory on Sunday.
Regional Teams of the Week
Northeast: Sacred Heart had a 4-1
week, starting with a 3-2 win over Yale on Wednesday. The Pioneers took three of
four from first-place Bryant in NEC action, winning 4-1 on Friday to halt the
19-game win streak of the Bulldogs. Sacred Heart dropped the opener of
Saturday’s doubleheader 7-2 before taking the nightcap 3-2 and winning on Sunday
4-2.
Southeast: NC State went 4-0 on the
road, winning 2-1 at Charlotte on Tuesday before sweeping a three-game ACC set
at No. 14 Georgia Tech. The Wolfpack defeated the Yellow Jackets 13-4 on Friday,
6-2 on Saturday and 8-7 on Sunday to extend its win streak to 14.
Central: Nebraska put together a 5-0
week, starting with a doubleheader sweep of 10th-ranked Arkansas on Tuesday. The
Huskers took the opener 3-0 on a combined no-hitter and won the nightcap 4-2. NU
captured three from Purdue in Big Ten play, winning 10-2 and 10-4 in a Saturday
doubleheader and 12-2 on Sunday.
West: UCLA went 3-1 on the road, starting with a 6-4 victory in 12
innings at UC Irvine on Tuesday. The Bruins posted 1-0 wins at eighth-ranked
Oregon on both Friday and Saturday before falling 5-3 to the Ducks on Sunday.
Honorable Mention
West Virginia had a 3-1 week,
beating Morehead State before taking two of three at Texas in Big 12 action.
South Carolina was 4-0 at home,
topping College of Charleston before sweeping a three-game SEC set from No. 18
Kentucky.
Stephen F. Austin went 3-1, winning
at Dallas Baptist prior to taking two of three from Southeastern Louisiana to
take sole possession of first place in the Southland Conference.
Gonzaga had a 3-1 week, defeating
Washington State before winning two of three at Pepperdine to stay in first in
the West Coast Conference.
Western Carolina was 4-0, beating
Gardner-Webb before sweeping a three-game Southern Conference set from Georgia
Southern to extend its win streak to seven.
USF put together a 4-0 week on the
road, winning at Stetson before sweeping a three-game Big East series at
Connecticut to stretch its win streak to 12.
Holy Cross went 6-0, taking two from
Brown before sweeping a four-game set from Lehigh to strengthen its hold on
first in the Patriot League.
Canisius was 5-0, winning twice
against Buffalo prior to a three-game MAAC sweep at Manhattan to extend its win
streak to seven.
Troy had a 5-0 week, taking two from
Alabama A&M before a three-game Sun Belt sweep of UALR to move with a game of
first.
Columbia went 3-1 at Princeton to
maintain its hold on the top spot in the Lou Gehrig Division of the Ivy League.
