FGCU named CBI Louisville Slugger Team of Week

FGCU traveled to Gainesville and swept a three-game series at Florida. The Eagles have been named the CollegeBaseballInsider.com Louisville Slugger Team of the Week.

FGCU entered the weekend 1-6 against the Gators. The Eagles posted an 8-2 win on Friday before clinching a series victory with an 8-3 decision on Saturday. Sunday’s contest went extra innings, with Sean Dwyer launching a three-run homer in the top of the 11th to give the Eagles a 7-4 win and a sweep of the series. It marked the first time since 2009 that Florida had been swept at home in a three-game series.

Regional Teams of the Week

Northeast: Notre Dame headed to New Orleans and swept a three-game set at Tulane. The Fighting Irish eked out a 2-1 win on Friday, posted a 3-1 victory on Saturday and closed out the sweep with an 8-3 triumph on Sunday.

Southeast: Alabama State put together a 4-1 week, including winning the MLB Urban Invitational at Minute Maid Park in Houston. The Hornets blanked Mercer 4-0 on Tuesday before falling 15-4 at South Alabama on Wednesday. Alabama State went 3-0 at the MLB Urban Invitational, defeating Prairie View A&M 9-2 on Friday, downing Southern 6-4 on national television on Saturday and edging Texas Southern 3-1 on Sunday.

Central: Austin Peay went 4-0, starting with a 5-2 win at Middle Tennessee on Tuesday. The Govs took three from Illinois State over the weekend, winning 9-4 on Friday, 9-6 on Saturday and 6-4 on Sunday.

West: Cal State Fullerton hit the road and came away with a 4-0 week. The Titans won 6-3 at Pepperdine on Wednesday before sweeping a three-game set at TCU. Fullerton won 7-2 on Friday, 6-2 on Saturday and 7-0 on Sunday.

Honorable Mention

Oregon State went 5-0, defeating UC Riverside in Palm Springs on Monday before sweeping a four-game series at San Diego State.

Alabama enjoyed 3-1 week, defeating Southern Miss before taking two of three at Florida Atlantic.

East Tennessee State went 4-0 at home, defeating Wofford before sweeping a three-game series from Seton Hall.

Radford headed south to Georgia and swept a three-game series at Kennesaw State.

Missouri State went 3-0 at the USM Invitational, defeating Alcorn State, host Southern Miss and Eastern Illinois.

Maine went 4-1 in the Sunshine State, taking two of three at Stetson and sweeping a doubleheader at Florida A&M.

Middle Tennessee had a 3-1 week, rebounding from a loss to Austin Peay to go 3-0 at Auburn’s tournament, defeating Auburn, Indiana State and College of Charleston.

Delaware State went 3-1 at the Coca-Cola Classic, splitting a pair with host Winthrop before beating Army and Eastern Kentucky

Memphis put together a 3-1 week, falling to Arkansas State before sweeping a three-game series from Missouri.

Illinois went 3-1 at the Keith LeClair Classic, bouncing back from a loss to host East Carolina to defeat Ohio, New Mexico State and Boston College.
