Oklahoma named CBI Team of the Week
Oklahoma
swept a three-game Big 12 series from first-place Baylor, previously undefeated
in conference play. The Sooners have been named the CollegeBaseballInsider.com
Team of the Week.
After Friday’s game was washed out, OU took a pair of one-run
decisions in Saturday’s doubleheader. The Sooners won 1-0 in 10 innings in the
opener and posted a 2-1 victory in the nightcap. Oklahoma outscored the
second-ranked Bears 12-6 on Sunday to complete the sweep.
Regional Teams of the Week
Northeast: Saint Louis went 4-0 to
extend its win streak to seven. The Billikens beat Eastern Illinois 11-6 on
Tuesday before sweeping an Atlantic 10 series at Charlotte to maintain their
hold on first. SLU won 7-5 on Friday, 9-1 on Saturday and 6-4 on Sunday.
Southeast: Vanderbilt went 3-1
against ranked teams, starting with a 3-2 win on Tuesday against Louisville. The
Commodores took two of three at fourth-ranked LSU, rebounding from a 2-1 Friday
loss to win 6-3 on Saturday and 5-4 in 10 innings on Sunday.
Central: Sam Houston State won two
of three against second-place Southeastern Louisiana to clinch the Southland
regular season title. After a Friday rainout, the Bearkats dropped the Saturday
opener 4-2 before taking a 3-2 win in the nightcap. SHSU won the series finale
8-3 on Sunday.
West: Sacramento State had a 4-0
week, starting with a 2-1 win in 10 innings over Saint Mary’s. The Hornets swept
a three-game WAC set from former first-place Hawaii to move within a half-game
of Nevada at the top of the standings. Sacramento State won 7-6 in 12 innings on
Friday, 10-3 on Saturday and 10-2 on Sunday.
Honorable Mention
Southern Miss went 3-0, sweeping a
three-game set from East Carolina to move into a third-place tie in Conference
USA.
Utah Valley swept a four-game Great
West series at NYIT to extend its win streak to 32.
Auburn went 3-1, beating
Presbyterian before taking two of three at No. 15 Arkansas.
Indiana State had a 4-0 week on the
road, winning at SIU Edwardsville before sweeping a three-game set at Southern
Illinois to move into first in the MVC.
USF swept a three-game series from
Connecticut to climb within a game of first in the Big East.
Appalachian State won two of three
at Samford to maintain its hold on first in the Southern Conference.
Bryant took three of four from
Wagner to capture the NEC regular season title. The Bulldogs are ineligible for
the tourney crown as they continue their Division I transition.
Nevada went 4-0, downing UC Davis
before sweeping a three-game series from San Jose State to ascend into first in
the WAC.
Stetson put together a 4-1 week,
splitting a pair against top-ranked Florida State before sweeping a three-game
set at ETSU to move within 1.5 games of first in the A-Sun.
Evansville 3-1, beating OVC leader
Austin Peay before taking two of three at first-place Missouri State in MVC
play.
