Team of the Week
Oregon named CBI Team of the Week
Oregon went 4-1 on the road, including a Pac-12 series win at
Arizona. The Ducks have been named the CollegeBaseballInsider.com Team of the
Week.
Oregon started the week with a pair of one-run wins at Gonzaga,
3-2 on Tuesday and 8-7 on Wednesday. The Ducks headed to Arizona for the weekend
in a battle for first in the Pac-12. Oregon won 6-1 on Friday and fell 12-6 on
Saturday before claiming a 3-1 victory on Sunday.
Regional Teams of the Week
Northeast: Cornell won two of three
against Dartmouth to capture its first Ivy League Championship. The Big Red won
11-3 in the opener of Saturday’s doubleheader, but lost 7-1 in the nightcap.
Chris Cruz belted a two-run homer in the bottom of the 11th in Sunday’s deciding
game as Cornell claimed a 3-1 victory.
Southeast: Florida won two of three
at No. 5 Kentucky to tighten the standing in the SEC Eastern Division. The
Gators won 5-3 on Thursday and 5-1 on Friday before falling 2-1 on Saturday in
the series finale.
Central: Valparaiso went 3-1 on the
road, including 2-1 at Wright State to move into a first-place tie in the
Horizon League. The Crusaders started the week with a 7-4 win at Notre Dame on
Wednesday. Valpo won 12-11 on Friday before the Raiders posted a 3-2 victory on
Saturday. The Crusaders rebounded to take a 4-3 decision on Sunday.
West: UCLA enjoyed a 3-1 week,
starting with a 2-1 win at Long Beach State on Tuesday. The Bruins hosted No. 13
Purdue over the weekend. UCLA swept a Saturday doubleheader, 5-1 and 3-2, before
falling 15-11 in the Sunday finale.
Honorable Mention
Hawaii went 3-0, sweeping a
three-game set from New Mexico State to move into first place in the WAC.
Kent State won three at Ohio in a
battle for first in the MAC Eastern Division.
Utah Valley had a 5-0 week, beating
BYU before sweeping a four-game set at Houston Baptist to extend its win streak
to 28.
South Carolina went 3-1, edging
Davidson before taking two of three at No. 16 Arkansas.
Oregon State took two of three
against No. 8 Stanford.
Arkansas State went 3-0, sweeping a
three-game set from South Alabama to move within a game of first in the Sun
Belt.
LSU had a 3-1 week, beating Tulane
before taking two of three at Ole Miss.
Oklahoma State took two of three
from Oklahoma to move into a tie for second in the Big 12.
Saint Louis had a 4-1 week, beating
Southeast Missouri and losing to SIU Edwardsville before sweeping a three-game
set against St. Bonaventure to move into a first-place tie in the Atlantic 10.
St. John’s went 3-1, defeating Iona
before taking two of three from USF to remain in first in the Big East.
Marist had a 5-0 week, sweeping a
doubleheader at Brown before winning three against Lafayette over the weekend.
