Coastal Carolina named CBI Team of the Week
Coastal
Carolina went 4-0 on the road, including a three-game Big South sweep at
Liberty. The Chanticleers have been named the CollegeBaseballInsider.com Team of
the Week.
Coastal Carolina started the week with a 10-7 win at Clemson on
Tuesday. The Chanticleers then headed to Lynchburg, defeating the Flames 5-3 on
Thursday, 4-2 on Friday and 7-1 on Saturday to secure its hold on first place in
the Big South. Coastal has now beaten Liberty in 16 straight meetings.
Regional Teams of the Week
Northeast: Hofstra went 4-0,
beginning with a 19-6 win over NYIT on Tuesday. The Pride swept a three-game
series at Delaware to move into second place in the CAA. Hofstra won 16-1 on
Friday, 4-0 on Saturday and 10-9 on Sunday.
Southeast: Arkansas had a 3-1 week,
starting with a 6-1 victory over Oral Roberts on Tuesday. The Razorbacks took
two of three at No. 4 Florida in SEC play. The Gators took the opener 3-2 on
Friday before Arkansas rebounded to win 5-1 on Saturday and 3-1 in 10 innings on
Sunday.
Central: Memphis went 3-1 against
ranked teams. The Tigers topped No. 19 Ole Miss 4-2 on Tuesday at home. Memphis
headed to Orlando for a three-game Conference USA set at No. 8 UCF. The Knights
won Friday 4-3 before the Tigers won 6-5 on Saturday and 1-0 on Sunday.
West: Stanford enjoyed a 3-1 week,
commencing with a 10-9 home win over BYU on Tuesday. The Cardinal went to No. 11
UCLA for a three-game Pac-12 set. Stanford won 7-2 on Friday before falling 7-4
on Saturday. In Sunday’s rubber game, the Cardinal claimed a 7-2 victory.
Honorable Mention
Vanderbilt went 3-1, winning at
Middle Tennessee before taking two of three from second-ranked Kentucky in SEC
play.
Texas A&M had a 3-1 week, defeating
TCU before winning two of three from Texas in Big 12 action.
Virginia put together a 4-0 week,
beating Radford and rallying past VCU before winning twice at No. 20 Miami
(Fla.).
Mississippi State went 3-1, topping
Southern Miss before taking two of three from in-state rival No. 19 Ole Miss.
Utah Valley swept a four-game series
against NJIT to go 16-0 in the Great West and extend its win streak to 23.
Eastern Kentucky went 5-0, beating
Ohio and winning at Marshall before sweeping a three-game set at Morehead State
to move within a half-game of first in the OVC.
Valparaiso had a 4-0 week, winning
at IPFW before sweeping a three-game series at Milwaukee to extend its win
streak to seven and move within a game of first in the Horizon.
Tulane went 3-1, defeating
Northwestern State before taking two of three at East Carolina in Conference USA
action.
Southern had a 3-0 week, topping New
Orleans before winning twice against SWAC Eastern Division leader Jackson State.
St. John’s went 3-1, rebounding from
a loss to Boston College to sweep a three-game set at Notre Dame to maintain its
hold on first in the Big East.
