Missouri State named CBI Team of the Week
Missouri
State went 4-0 with a three-game sweep of Creighton. The Bears have been named
the CollegeBaseballInsider.com Team of the Week.
Missouri State, under head coach Keith Guttin (right), started
the week with an 8-1 win at Southeast Missouri State on Tuesday. The Bears, the
favorite in the Missouri Valley Conference, hosted Creighton to start league
play. The Bluejays were picked to finish second. Missouri State posted a pair of
shutouts, 3-0 on Friday and 7-0 on Saturday, before a 5-3 decision on Sunday
completed the sweep.
Regional Teams of the Week
Northeast: Rhode Island went 3-1,
starting with a 7-5 win at Sacred Heart on Tuesday. The Rams took two of three
from preseason favorite Charlotte to begin Atlantic 10 play. URI won 5-2 on
Friday and bounced back from a 6-3 loss on Saturday to post a 5-1 victory on
Sunday to win the series.
Southeast: Campbell put together a
5-0 week to extend its win streak to 18. The Camels took a pair of midweek games
from Coppin State, 12-2 on Tuesday and 12-0 on Wednesday. Campbell opened Big
South play with a three-game sweep at Winthrop, winning 8-0 on Friday before two
victories on Saturday, 7-6 in 12 innings and 6-4.
Central: Sam Houston State went 3-1,
rebounding from a 1-0 loss to Baylor on Wednesday to sweep a Southland series
from preseason favorite Texas State. The Bearkats won 4-3 on Friday, 10-4 on
Saturday and 5-2 on Sunday.
West: New Mexico took two of three
from TCU to move into first place in the Mountain West. The Lobos won 9-8 on
Friday and fell 5-4 on Saturday before posting a 12-7 decision on Sunday to
capture the series.
Honorable Mention
Florida went 3-1 with a win over
Samford before taking two of three at South Carolina.
UCF was 3-1 with a victory over USF
before taking two of three from Conference USA rival East Carolina.
Texas A&M went 3-0 with a three-game
sweep at Pepperdine.
Virginia went 4-1, rebounding from a
loss at Florida State to beat VMI and sweep a three-game ACC set from Clemson.
Austin Peay went 4-1 with a win at
Lipscomb and a loss to Western Kentucky before sweeping a three-game Ohio Valley
Conference series at Southeast Missouri.
Auburn enjoyed a 3-1 week with a
victory over South Alabama before taking two of three from SEC rival LSU.
Sacred Heart went 4-1, bouncing back
from a loss to Rhode Island to sweep a four-game Northeast Conference set from
Mount St. Mary’s.
