Team of the Week

San Jose State named CBI Team of the Week

After winning three games during the week, San Jose State won two of three at No. 2 UCLA over the weekend. The Spartans are the CollegeBaseballInsider.com Team of the Week.

SJSU won 2-0 at Saint Mary’s on Monday, defeated UC Davis 5-4 at home on Tuesday and outlasted Albany 6-5 in 17 innings on Wednesday. Rain suspended Friday’s game at UCLA after one inning. The Spartans defeated Trevor Bauer and the Bruins 5-3 on Saturday. SJSU then beat Gerrit Cole and UCLA 8-3 on Sunday in the completion of Friday’s suspended game. The Bruins battled back to win the series finale 12-2 later in the day on Sunday.

Regional Teams of the Week

Northeast: Stony Brook shook off the cold and snow to win two of three at Sun Belt favorite Florida Atlantic.

Southeast: Southeastern Louisiana topped Tulane on Tuesday and then went undefeated in South Alabama’s tournament. The Lions beat Alabama, UCF and the host Jaguars.

Central: Toledo headed south and won its series at No. 17 Louisville. The Rockets won on Friday and Saturday and nearly swept the series before the Cardinals rallied on Sunday.

West: Cal State Fullerton won at Long Beach State on Monday and took two of three at No. 4 TCU. The Titans lost on Friday, but battled back to win Saturday and Sunday.

Honorable Mention

California rebounded from a loss at Stanford to beat host Coastal Carolina, NC State and Kansas State in Baseball at the Beach in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Creighton won in extra innings at Kansas before sweeping a four-game set at New Mexico.

Vanderbilt beat Belmont before taking two of three from No. 10 Stanford.

Kent State went undefeated at the Johnny Gill Memorial Tournament, beating Wagner twice and host Winthrop two times.

Sam Houston State went 5-0, with a win over Houston Baptist and two victories over both Nebraska and Northern Colorado in the Bearkat Invitational.

Elon won at High Point before taking two of three at USF, with both wins in extra innings.

Cal State Bakersfield defeated San Francisco on Monday before sweeping a three-game series from Washington.

Bucknell bounced back from its beatdown at James Madison last weekend to take two of three at Richmond.

Illinois returned to the Sunshine State and won two of three at A-Sun co-favorite FGCU.

Monmouth started its season by taking two of three at VCU.
