Team of the Week
Stetson named CBI Team of the Week
Stetson, picked to finish fifth the Atlantic Sun by the head
coaches, swept a three-game series from Georgia of the SEC. The Hatters get a
tip of our cap as the initial 2011 CollegeBaseballInsider.com Team of the Week.
Stetson began the weekend with a 6-3 win over the Bulldogs on
Friday, as Lindsey Caughel (right) started on the mound. The Hatters followed that with a 7-2
triumph on Saturday and completed
the sweep with an 8-4 decision on Sunday.
Regional Teams of the Week
Northeast: Louisville went 3-0 in
the Big East-Big Ten Challenge, with victories over Michigan, Ohio State and
Minnesota. The Cardinals shut out the Buckeyes and Golden Gophers.
Southeast: North Carolina went to
the West Coast and picked up wins over Cal Poly, at No. 9 Cal State Fullerton,
against Missouri and at USC.
Central: Michigan State was the only
Big Ten team to go undefeated in the Big East-Big Ten Challenge. The Spartans
earned wins over Notre Dame, Seton Hall and Cincinnati.
West: Stanford hit the road and won
two of three at No. 18 Rice. The No. 13 Cardinal won on Friday, fell on Saturday
and rebounded for the series clincher on Sunday.
Honorable Mention
Vanderbilt went 4-0 with three wins
at San Diego and one at San Diego State.
Portland headed east and won three
at Middle Tennessee.
Virginia was perfect at the Auburn
Tournament, with wins over UAB and Arkansas State, as well as the host Tigers.
Elon took two of three from in-state
rival NC State, splitting two games in Raleigh and winning on Saturday at home.
Southeastern Louisiana disregarded
all the hype about Garrett Wittels’ hit streak and won two of three at FIU.
Mercer won three of four at home
against a strong Liberty squad.
Saint Peter’s headed south and won
three of four at Savannah State.
