California Named CBI
Team of the Week
California was 4-0 this past week, including a three-game sweep
of No. 20 Arizona, and was named CollegeBaseballInsider.com Team of the Week.
The Golden Bears started the week with an 8-5 victory over Fresno
State on Tuesday. Cal defeated the Wildcats 7-2 on Thursday on the opener of
their Pac-10 series. After a rainout on Friday, the Bears swept a doubleheader
on Saturday. Cal blanked Arizona 8-0 in the opener before securing the sweep
with a 4-3 victory in the nightcap.
Honorable Mention goes to Virginia Tech, which defeated VMI and
won at ETSU before taking two of three at No. 6 Florida State. NC State defeated
Old Dominion prior to winning two of three against No. 2 Virginia. No. 7 Texas
rebounded from a home loss to Oral Roberts to sweep a three-game Big 12 series
at No. 10 Oklahoma. Tennessee topped Tennessee Tech and Presbyterian before
taking two of three from No. 11 Ole Miss. Arkansas State beat Memphis before
taking two of three against Sun Belt preseason favorite Western Kentucky.
College of Charleston defeated Charleston Southern before sweeping a three-game
Southern Conference series against Georgia Southern. Washington beat Seattle
before taking two of three from Washington State. Missouri State won at Kansas
before taking three from Oral Roberts. Gardner-Webb topped North Carolina A&T
before sweeping a three-game Big South series against Winthrop. Connecticut
swept a three-game Big East series at West Virginia. Jacksonville State bounced
back from a loss at Alabama to sweep a three-game OVC series from Tennessee
Tech. Northwestern State lost at Louisiana-Lafayette before taking three from
Southland Conference rival Sam Houston State. Mount St. Mary’s took three of
four from Northeast Conference preseason favorite Wagner.
