Team of the Week
New Mexico, picked to finish second in the Mountain West
Conference by the head coaches, won two of three at Texas, the consensus
preseason No. 1. The Lobos are the initial 2010 CollegeBaseballInsider.com Team
of the Week.
New Mexico dropped the season opener 6-2 on Friday, but rebounded
for a 6-5 win on Saturday and a series-clinching 3-1 victory on Sunday. Prior to
Saturday, the Lobos were 0-9 against top-ranked teams.
Honorable mention goes to Stanford, which swept a three-game
series from No. 5 Rice. No. 3 Virginia won two of three at No. 17 East Carolina.
Kentucky registered wins over No. 15 Coastal Carolina, Virginia Tech and West
Virginia in the Caravelle Resort Tournament in Conway, S.C. Texas State swept a
three-game set at Houston. Boston College took two of three at Tulane. Oregon
recorded wins at No. 4 Cal State Fullerton and at Long Beach State before
falling at Pepperdine. USC took two of three at Cal Poly. Fresno State won three
times at home against Nebraska. Tennessee Tech won two of three at Georgia
Southern. Liberty went 3-0 at Kennesaw State. Western Kentucky took two of three
at home against Kent State. Villanova swept a three-game series at Norfolk
State.
