Georgia Southern Named CBI
Team of the Week
After a three-game Southern Conference sweep of first-place
College of Charleston, Georgia Southern has been named CBI Team of the Week.
The Eagles won 15-14 in 14 innings on Friday, 16-7 on Saturday
and 20-8 on Sunday. The Cougars started the series 10-2 in Southern Conference
play, 20-5 overall, and dropped from first to fourth in the league standings.
Georgia Southern improved to 7-3 in conference action, good for third place, and
21-7 overall.
Honorable mention goes to George Mason, which defeated Mount St.
Mary’s and Georgetown before sweeping a three-game CAA series from first-place
UNC Wilmington. The Patriots won all five games at Spuhler Field in Fairfax to
stretch its home win streak to 20. UC Irvine won at Loyola Marymount before
taking two of three Big West contests at top-ranked Cal State Fullerton. Arizona
State split a pair with the Titans before sweeping a Pac-10 series at
Washington. TCU defeated UT Arlington before sweeping a Mountain West set from
No. 22 New Mexico. Ole Miss enjoyed a 6-0 week with wins over Arkansas State,
Jackson State and Memphis before a three-game SEC sweep of Kentucky. North
Carolina defeated Davidson and Old Dominion before winning two of three ACC
contests at No. 5 Georgia Tech. Texas topped Oral Roberts before taking two of
three Big 12 ballgames at No. 15 Oklahoma State. LSU rebounded from a loss at
Tulane to win two of three SEC contests at No. 2 Georgia. Miami (Fla.) beat
Barry before taking two of three from No. 25 Florida State. Eastern Illinois won
at Saint Louis and defeated Chicago State before going 2-0 against Murray State
to stretch its win streak to 11. Louisiana-Lafayette beat Northwestern State
before sweeping a Sun Belt series from Middle Tennessee. Dartmouth defeated
Siena before winning Ivy League doubleheaders from Cornell and Princeton to
extend its win streak to nine. Southeastern Louisiana won two of three at UT
Arlington to remain in first in the Southland. Kansas State rebounded from a
loss at Creighton to sweep a three-game Big 12 set at Nebraska. Hawaii won three
of four WAC contests from San Jose State. West Virginia defeated Duquesne and
Ohio before taking three from Georgetown to extend its win streak to seven. USF
beat Florida Atlantic before sweeping a three-game Big East series from
Pittsburgh. Oregon State swept a three-game Pac-10 series from California. Kent
State defeated Malone and won at Penn State before taking three from Northern
Illinois. Kennesaw State swept a three-game Atlantic Sun series from Lipscomb.
Mount St. Mary’s rebounded from a loss to George Mason to sweep a four-game NEC
series from Quinnipiac. Manhattan fell to Hofstra before beating Albany and
capturing a three-game MAAC series from Marist. Albany bounced back from its
loss at Manhattan to sweep a four-game America East series from UMBC.
