Duke Named CBI
Team of the Week
After going 4-1 and winning its ACC series at No. 1 North
Carolina, Duke has been named the CollegeBaseballInsider.com Team of the Week.
The Blue Devils swept a doubleheader from Maryland-Eastern Shore
12-4 and 5-2 on Wednesday. Duke lost at UNC 8-5 on Friday before beating the Tar
Heels 5-4 on Saturday and 10-9 on Sunday to raise its record to 14-7 overall and
5-4 in the ACC.
Honorable mention goes to Kansas, which rebounded from two losses
at San Diego State to sweep a three-game Big 12 series against No. 2 Texas.
Miami (Fla.) defeated St. Thomas and UMBC before winning two of three at
previously undefeated No. 16 Virginia. Cal State Fullerton swept a three-game
set from Summit-favorite Oral Roberts. New Mexico enjoyed a 6-0 week, with two
wins at No. 7 Texas A&M and a four-game sweep of Northwestern. Arizona State
started its Pac-10 slate with a three-game sweep of Arizona. College of
Charleston won at No. 11 Coastal Carolina before taking three at Samford to stay
in first in the Southern Conference. Arkansas went 1-1 against Nebraska before
winning three at Auburn to stay undefeated in SEC play at 6-0. Georgia won at
Georgia State before taking three from Mississippi State. Loyola Marymount
bounced back from a loss at Long Beach State to sweep a four-game series with
defending national champion Fresno State. Central Connecticut State defeated
Indiana and Illinois in Florida. East Carolina beat Richmond and Norfolk State
before sweeping a C-USA series against UCF. Middle Tennessee split a pair with
Southern Illinois before sweeping Florida Atlantic to move into a tie for first
in the Sun Belt. Missouri State took two from Southeast Missouri State before
sweeping a three-game MVC set against Bradley. Kent State defeated Ashland and
Duquesne before taking three MAC contests from Eastern Michigan. Fordham bounced
back from a loss at Liberty to take two of three at A-10 favorite Charlotte.
Jacksonville won at Bethune-Cookman before taking two of three at A-Sun leader
Florida Gulf Coast. Seton Hall defeated Stony Brook and lost to Manhattan before
winning two of three at Notre Dame. UTSA rebounded from a pair of losses at
Kansas State to sweep a three-game Southland set at first-place Sam Houston
State. Eastern Illinois defeated Indiana and lost to Bradley in Florida before
winning three OVC games at Murray State. Winthrop rebounded from a loss at USC
to defeat Georgia Southern and take two of three from Big South-favorite Coastal
Carolina.
