Rebounding from a 1-2 start, the Owls began the week with a 9-2
victory over cross-town rival Houston on Wednesday. At Minute Maid Park over the
weekend, Rice edged No. 19 UCLA 5-4 in 10 innings on Friday, blanked No. 3 Texas
A&M 2-0 on Saturday and defeated No. 12 Baylor 8-3 on Sunday.
Honorable mention goes to Miami (Fla.), which swept a three-game
series at nationally-ranked and in-state rival Florida. Georgia took two games
from Presbyterian and swept a three-game set at Arizona. TCU defeated Dallas
Baptist and Texas State at home, then won at nationally-ranked Ole Miss. Coastal
Carolina won at top-ranked North Carolina, then defeated West Virginia and
Tennessee. Milwaukee went 3-0 in the Jacksonville Invitational with wins over
Michigan, Akron and host Jacksonville. Cal Poly won at Fresno State and swept a
three-game series from Sacramento State. Cal State Fullerton won at San Diego
State and swept a three-game set from nationally-ranked Stanford. Western
Carolina won two of three at USC. Marist took two of three at New Orleans.
Oregon won its first home game in 28 years and took two of three from defending
national champion Fresno State.
