Brian Cavazos-Galvez (Albuquerque, N.M.)

New Mexico senior outfielder

 

Cavazos-Galvez went 11 for 17 (.647) with one double, five home runs, 12 runs and 11 RBI as the Lobos went 4-0, including a three-game Mountain West sweep of Air Force. Cavazos-Galvez went 2 for 4 with two homers and five RBI in an 11-7 win at Saint Mary’s. He went 3 for 6 with two runs and one RBI in a 25-7 victory in the series opener with the Falcons. Cavazos-Galvez had one hit, two runs and one RBI in a 6-2 triumph in the second game before going 5 for 5 in the finale with a double, three homers, six runs and four RBI in a 19-6 win.

 

 

 

Regional Players of the Week

 

Northeast

Ethan Paquette (West Burke, Vt.)
Vermont junior first baseman

 

Paquette batted .500 (10 for 20) with 13 RBI in six games for the Catamounts. Paquette had four doubles, two walks and six runs while compiling a slugging percentage of 1.000. He went 6 for 14 with two homers and 10 RBI as Vermont won three of four at first-place Binghamton to claim the final spot in the America East Championship. Paquette homered in both games of Saturday’s doubleheader sweep and knocked in nine.

 

 

Southeast

Chris Herrmann (Tomball, Texas)

Miami (Fla.) junior outfielder

 

Herrmann went 10 for 13 (.769) in a three-game sweep at Wake Forest with eight runs, eight RBI and 17 total bases. He walked four times, had an on-base percentage of .824 and a slugging percentage of 1.308. Herrmann had at least three hits in each game against the Demon Deacons. In the series opener Thursday, Herrman scored five times. He had two home runs in the opener of Saturday’s doubleheader and went 4 for 4 in the nightcap.

 

  

Central

Chase Lyles (Plain Dealing, La.)

Northwestern State junior second baseman

 

Lyles hit .786 (11 for 14) with four home runs, nine runs, 10 RBI and two steals as the Demons took two of three in their Southland series with second-place Southeastern Louisiana. On Thursday, Lyles had two singles and two runs in a 12-4 win. He went 4 for 5 on Friday with two homers and four RBI in a 7-5 extra-inning loss. In the series finale, Lyles was 5 for 5 with a double, two homers, five runs and six RBI in a 19-9 victory.

 

 

West

Mike Leake (Fallbrook, Calif.)

Arizona State junior pitcher

 

Leake pitched his first complete-game shutout in a 9-0 victory Friday against Oregon. The right-hander allowed three hits, did not walk a batter and struck out 12. Leake faced just two hitters over the minimum, helping the Sun Devils to the sweep of the Ducks and capture their third straight Pac-10 title. Leake recorded his ninth career complete game and fifth this season, all against conference competition. He earned his 13th victory, matching his career best.
