Alex White (Greenville, N.C.)

North Carolina junior pitcher

 

White pitched a complete-game one-hit shutout Friday in the opener of the ACC series with No. 11 Miami (Fla.). The right-hander allowed a single to Dave DiNatale in the third, then set down 14 straight. White walked one in the eighth and struck out a season-high 10 in the 3-0 win over the Hurricanes. He faced just 28 batters, one over the minimum. White improved to 6-1 and lowered his ERA to 3.14. 

 

 

 

Regional Players of the Week

 

Northeast

James Jones (Brooklyn, N.Y.)

Long Island junior outfielder

 

Jones batted .667 (10 for 15) in a four-game Northeast Conference series with Sacred Heart with two homers, eight runs and six RBI. He registered an on-base percentage of .737, a slugging percentage of 1.333 and an OPS of 2.070 OPS. Jones hit for the cycle in a 5-for-6 performance in the series opener against the Pioneers. His homer in the eighth gave the Blackbirds the lead for good in a 15-11 victory.

 

 

Southeast

Brett Eibner (Houston, Texas)

Arkansas sophomore pitcher

 

Eibner made two starts and capped the week by pitching a complete-game one-hit shutout at No. 3 Georgia Sunday. The right-hander surrendered a leadoff double to Matt Cerione in the third, then retired 17 straight before a leadoff walk in the ninth. Eibner walked three and struck out a career-high 12. It was the first one-hitter in more than 12 years for the Razorbacks. Eibner allowed five hits and two runs in three innings Tuesday against ULM with two walks and one strikeout.

 

  

Central

Derek McCallum (Shoreview, Minn.)

Minnesota junior second baseman

 

McCallum had a monster week at the plate for Minnesota, mashing six home runs and driving in 20 in five games. He batted .636 (14 for 22) with nine runs, 36 total bases and a slugging percentage of 1.636. McCallum homered and knocked in six on Tuesday against Milwaukee, then hit two dingers and drove in six on Wednesday against South Dakota State. In three Big Ten games against Illinois, he hammered three more homers with eight RBI

 

 

West

Devon Dageford (Beatrice, Neb.)

Louisiana Tech junior outfielder

 

Dageford led Louisiana Tech to five wins last week, including a four-game sweep of defending national champion Fresno State. Dageford hit .476 (10 for 21) with three home runs, nine runs and nine RBI. He belted a game-winning two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth to cap a five-run rally in Friday’s 11-9 series opener against Fresno State. Dageford homered to put Tech ahead to stay in the series finale against the visiting Bulldogs.
