18 Former Division I Players on
World Series Rosters
There
are 18 former Division I players among the 50 major leaguers
listed on the World Series rosters.
The Texas Rangers have 10
former Division I players on their 25-man World Series roster. The
San Francisco Giants
have eight.
There are 16 Division I schools which have at
least one alum in the postseason. There are two schools with
two players: LSU and Miami (Fla.).
Alabama and Arkansas are the only schools to have
had alums in each of the past two World Series. Former Razorback
Cliff Lee is the only player to return to the Fall Classic from
a season ago. A current Ranger, Lee pitched for the Philadelphia
Phillies against the New York Yankees in the 2009 World Series.
There are seven players from the SEC, four from
the ACC, two from the Big 12 and Big West, and one each from the
Pac-10, Southland and West Coast.
