21 Former Division I Players on World Series Rosters 

There are 21 former Division I players among the 50 major leaguers listed on the World Series rosters, one more than in 2012 and three more than the total of 18 for each of the previous two years.

In each League Championship Series, the team with more former Division I players won the series. St. Louis had 12 compared to eight for Los Angeles, while Boston had eight and Detroit had six.

The Saint Louis Cardinals have 13 former Division I players on their 25-man World Series roster, including former TCU standout and CBI journalist Matt Carpenter (pictured). The Boston Red Sox have eight.

There are 19 Division I schools which have at least one alum in the World Series. Florida State is the only program with multiple players and it has three: Randy Coate and Shane Robinson of the Cardinals, and Stephen Drew of the Red Sox.

There are five schools which had players in each of the past two World Series: California, Florida State, Miami (Fla.), San Diego State, and Texas. SDSU is represented by the same player: Quintin Berry. The Boston outfielder was a member of the Detroit Tigers a year ago.

Arkansas was the only school to have had alums in each of the previous four World Series, but none this year. Former Razorback Drew Smyly was a pitcher with the Detroit Tigers a year ago. Craig Gentry was an outfielder with the Texas Rangers in 2011, while Cliff Lee pitched for the Philadelphia Phillies in 2009 and for Texas in 2010.

There are four from schools in the ACC, while three come from the Big West, Pac-12 and SEC. There are two from schools in the Big 12 and one each from Conference USA, Ivy League, Metro Atlantic, Mountain West, Sun Belt and West Coast.
