45 Former Division I Players on
League Championship Rosters
There
are 45 former Division I players among the 100 major leaguers
listed on League Championship Series rosters.
The Boston Red Sox lead the way with 16 former
Division I players among the 25 on their postseason roster,
including for Arizona State standout Dustin Pedroia (pictured).
The Philadelphia Phillies and Tampa Bay Rays have 11 each, and the Los Angeles Dodgers have seven.
Three of the four first-round series had the team
with more Division I players advance, as the Red Sox (17) eliminated the
Angels (5), the Rays (11) defeated the White Sox (7) and the Phillies (11) topped the Brewers (8).
The Dodgers (7) had one less Division I player than the Cubs
(8).
There are 38 Division I schools which have at
least one alum in the postseason. There are seven schools with
two players: Arizona State, Florida State, Georgia Tech, McNeese State, Miami (Fla.),
Oklahoma and Stanford.
