81 Former Division I Players on Division Series Rosters

There are 81 former Division I players among the 200 major leaguers listed on MLB Division Series rosters, including former East Carolina hurler Seth Maness (right) of the St. Louis Cardinals. It is the highest number in the past five seasons. There were 60 in 2010, 78 in 2011, 75 in 2012 and 70 a year ago.

The Los Angeles Angels lead the way with 15. The San Francisco Giants, the St. Louis Cardinals and Washington Nationals each have 11. The Baltimore Orioles have 10 and the Detroit Tigers have nine, while the Kansas City Royals and Los Angeles Dodgers both have seven.

There are 57 Division I schools which have at least one alum in the Division Series. Two schools have four: Cal State Fullerton (Gary Brown of San Francisco, Christian Colon of Kansas City, Vinnie Pestano of the LA Angels, Justin Turner of the LA Dodgers) and Long Beach State (Matt Duffy of San Francisco, Danny Espinosa of Washington, Jason Vargas of Kansas City, Jered Weaver of LA Angels). Arizona State, North Carolina, TCU and Texas have three each. Alabama, Dayton, Florida State, LSU, Missouri, Nebraska, Ole Miss, Stanford, Vanderbilt and Virginia have two each.
