81 Former Division I Players on
Division Series Rosters
There
are 81 former Division I players among the 200 major leaguers
listed on MLB Division Series rosters, including former
East Carolina hurler Seth Maness (right) of the St. Louis
Cardinals.
It is the highest number in the past five seasons. There were 60
in 2010, 78 in 2011, 75 in 2012 and 70 a year ago.
The Los Angeles Angels lead the way with 15. The
San Francisco Giants, the St. Louis Cardinals and Washington
Nationals each have 11. The Baltimore Orioles have 10 and the
Detroit Tigers have nine, while the Kansas City Royals and Los
Angeles Dodgers both have seven.
There are 57 Division I schools which have at
least one alum in the Division Series. Two schools have four:
Cal State Fullerton (Gary Brown of San Francisco, Christian
Colon of Kansas City, Vinnie Pestano of the LA Angels, Justin
Turner of the LA Dodgers) and Long Beach State (Matt Duffy of
San Francisco, Danny Espinosa of Washington, Jason Vargas of
Kansas City, Jered Weaver of LA Angels). Arizona State, North
Carolina, TCU and Texas have three each. Alabama, Dayton,
Florida State, LSU, Missouri, Nebraska, Ole Miss, Stanford,
Vanderbilt and Virginia have two each.
