325 Former Division I Players
Currently in Major Leagues
In looking at the active rosters
and disabled lists of the 30 Major
League teams on April 11, there are 325 who played Division I
baseball. That represents 38% of the 865 major leaguers
on active rosters or disabled lists..
There are 133 Division I schools which have at
least one alum in the major leagues. Long Beach State leads the way with
11 big-leaguers followed by Arizona State with nine, including
Jason Kipnis (right) of the Cleveland Indians. There are eight major
leaguers from Texas. Those with seven include Cal State
Fullerton, North Carolina and Stanford. There are six from
Arkansas and UCLA. Those programs with five include Alabama,
California, Georgia, Miami (Fla.), South Carolina, Tennessee,
USC, Vanderbilt and Virginia.
Cleveland and San Diego lead the major league teams with 17
Division I players on their active roster and DL. Arizona and
Pittsburgh have 15, while Oakland has 14. Colorado and Kansas
City have the lowest number with six.
