Jedd Soto has received a three-year contract
extension as head coach at Saint Mary’s through the 2012 season.
Soto has 135 wins in six seasons with the Gaels. Saint Mary’s
was 28-27 this past season, including 9-12 in the West Coast
Conference. The Gaels had four players taken in this year’s MLB
Draft.
Baylor will hold its annual Burgers on the Berm
on Friday, Sept. 18, at Baylor Ballpark. The event starts at 6
p.m. and admission is free, but donations are accepted to
support the Baylor Diamond Girls. The Bears will hold an
intrasquad scrimmage during the evening.
Austin Peay has added Joel Mangrum as assistant
coach and Justin Dedman as volunteer assistant. Mangrum will be
responsible for pitching and recruiting. He had the same duties
for three years at Milligan College. Mangrum is a 2005 graduate
of Mississippi College. Dedman coached for four seasons at his
alma mater, Denison College. He was an assistant for three years
before becoming interim head coach in 2008. Dedman led the
Redmen to a 27-18 record.
Jason Lefkowitz has been hired as an assistant at
UC Santa Barbara. Lefkowitz, who played at Loyola Marymount,
worked at Brown since 2006 as assistant coach and camp director.
John Kirkgard, who has been an assistant with the Gauchos for
the past 13 years, has become director of baseball operations at
UCSB.
Kyle Bunn has been hired as pitching coach at
Alabama. He worked the past two seasons at Clemson. Bunn was
pitching coach at Ole Miss for six years. A native of
Georgetown, S.C., Bunn is a 1999 graduate of The Citadel.
Maryland-Eastern Shore will hold its annual
alumni game on Saturday, Oct. 24. The 2010 Hawks will play the
alumni following a home run derby, which begins at noon. Lunch
will be served at 3:30 p.m. Registration begins at 9 a.m., with
batting practice at 10:30 a.m. In the event of rain, the event
will be moved to Saturday, Oct. 31. For additional information,

Jay Uhlman will be the volunteer assistant at
Oregon. He will work with the offense, instructing hitters and
coaching base runners. Uhlman will also work with the infield
defense. He was an assistant the past eight years at Nevada, his
alma mater.
Portland will hold its alumni weekend Sept.
18-20. Alumni batting practice will be on Friday at 5 p.m. The
alumni game will be on Saturday at 1 p.m., followed by a
barbeque. A golf tournament will be on Sunday at Langdon Farms
