Roller Coaster Ride to SEC
Tournament
This year has really been a roller coaster. We
will play well for several games and then will not play well. I
know one thing is that we have one of toughest conferences in
the nation and any team can win on a given day.
Every
team has good pitching and hitting and you have to come ready
every day to play. The last several weekends against Georgia,
Auburn, and Kentucky have been tough. We definitely had to
compete daily to have a shot to win. All of these teams did a
great job at the plate against us and that is one thing that
made it difficult for us as well as our opponent’s pitching. The
other team’s pitchers did a good job in keeping us off balance
which makes it tough.
After Georgia on Sunday we had final exams the
next day starting at 8 a.m. We got back to Oxford really late,
which made it tough to do well on Monday’s exams. It is hard to
do well on our exams as it is because of so much time spent
traveling and out of class.
On Saturday, we defeated Kentucky to put us in
the SEC Tournament, which was very exciting to us as a ball club
because of the season we have had. Our closer, Scott Bittle, was
unreal on the mound as he pitched more than 7.0 innings in
relief and struck out 10 batters. Did I mention he is a
semi-finalist for the Clemens Award for the best pitcher in the
nation?
We play Wednesday against Georgia in the first
round of the SEC Tournament and I know we will be ready to play
because this is a new season and a new start to do great. The
SEC tournament is in Hoover, AL and it is always a fun and
ecstatic experience. We are definitely honored to be able to go
there. I’m looking forward to seeing all the Rebel fans out to
support us. Hotty Toddy!
