Play, Compete, and Have Fun

The past week and a half has been a complete one-eighty. The whole team has a different attitude and is really playing well as a whole. We are playing and competing like we did the first part of the season.

On Wednesday against Memphis, we fell behind in the first by four runs, but that did not faze us one bit. We keep battling at the plate and pitchers started competing and getting outs. We came out with the win after scrapping our way back into the game.

Last weekend against Vanderbilt was something special that has really shown everyone else who we are and what we are capable of. Vandy is really good team, but our pitchers did an outstanding job on the mound. The hitters had a better mindset which is what I think has turned our offense around. The mindset we have now is to go out there and play and compete and to also have fun. I think in the past we just lost focus and really were not going out there with the mindset that we were going to win no matter what.

We again scratched out a win in the first game and Scott Bittle really stepped up to the challenge of holding a good hitting Vanderbilt team down while our offense got us back in the game. Drew Pomeranz was amazing as he helped lead us to a shutout in the second game and was named SEC Freshman of the Week. We got the sweep, our first in conference play, with a big win on Sunday.

This week against South Alabama was something special because Coach Reinstettle used to coach there two years ago. He really wanted us to go out there and take care of business which is what we did. On Tuesday, Sean Stuyverson hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the 10th to win the game. It was very special and was a great win for our program. On Wednesday we did an outstanding job by getting on board early in the 1st with four runs which allowed our pitchers to relax and throw strikes.

Overall, Ole Miss Baseball is improving daily which is great to see. On to the LSU series this weekend!
