Wheeler is new head coach at
Temple
Ryan Wheeler has been named head coach at Temple
University.
Wheeler has been an assistant coach for the past
five seasons at the University of Richmond, coordinating
recruiting while working with hitters and infielders. The
Spiders were 29-27-2 this past season, including 13-11 in the
Atlantic 10. UR reached the championship game of the Atlantic 10
Tournament, falling to Charlotte.
Prior to his arrival at Richmond, Wheeler spent
one year as an assistant at Penn and nine seasons as an
assistant at William and Mary.
A graduate of Penn State, Wheeler was taken by
the California Angels in the 31st round of the 1994 MLB Draft.
Wheeler replaces Rob Valli, who resigned in June.
The Owls were 24-29 in 2011, including 4-20 in the Atlantic 10.
