2012 Coaching Changes
Collins to become director of
development at SIUE
Gary
Collins (right), the head coach for the past 34 seasons at SIU
Edwardsville, will leave his baseball post to become the
school’s first full-time director of development for
Intercollegiate Athletics.
Collins has posted a record 1,028-766-7 with the
Cougars, more wins than any other coach in any sport at SIUE. He
led the Cougars to 14 Regional berths and five appearances in
the Division II College World Series. SIUE has played a Division
I schedule for the past three seasons as it transitions to full
Division I status.
Fund-raising has been part of Collins’ success in
the past. He has helped secure more than $2 million for SIUE
baseball, golf and wrestling.
Collins will report to Patrick Hundley, Vice
Chancellor for University Relations, and indirectly to Dr. Brad
Hewitt, Director of Athletics.
This is one of the final three positions to be
added according to SIUE’s strategic plan for NCAA Division I.
