Robinson Announces Resignation

Candy Robinson has resigned as head coach at Texas Southern and will become director of baseball operations.

Robinson has recorded 228 wins in 19 seasons with the Tigers. This year’s squad won its second Southwestern Athletic Conference title and advanced to the Baton Rouge Regional.

Texas Southern also won the SWAC championship in 2004 and defeated defending national champion Rice in the school’s first regional contest.

Robinson has twice been named SWAC Coach of the Year and his teams have made 12 conference tournament appearances, including nine consecutive.

Robinson had several accomplished players, including 2005 SWAC Pitcher of the Year Brandon Strickland, 2007 SWAC Freshman of the Year and Freshman All-American Kyle Smith.

An outstanding pitcher at Grambling State, Robinson was an All-American in 1965. He was drafted and signed by the Boston Red Sox and played several years of pro baseball.

Robinson’s new duties will include fund-raising and player development.
